PREMIER LEAGUE: BURNLEY 2-1 EVERTON

Burnley defeated Everton 2-1 at home coming from behind with goals from Ashley Barnes (56 min) and Chris Wood (80 min”) to end their long winless streak to reach a top eight spot on the Premier League Table. Everton's only goal was by new signing Cenk Tosun who opened the match scoring at 20 minutes.

Everton fans braved harsh weather traveling to play Burnley in what ended up their 6th straight away loss. Burnley manager Sean Dyche won his 250th game in charge and completed the Clarets first league double over Everton since 1959-60. This was the first game Burnley have won in the Premier League since the first part of December. Everton have only won once on the road in the EPL since the start of February 2017. That’s one win in 23 away matches. The game was a showdown between the seventh and ninth place clubs in the chase to a top seventh or eighth place finish just below the Big Six for both of the famous old historic sides. The Clarets are now in the seventh spot, while the Toffees remain in the top half in 9th.

After their loss, Boss Sam and Everton were booed off the field by their traveling supporters.

Big Sam Allardyce was interviewed post-match.

Before the match, Big Sam Allardyce was interviewed by the press.

“The performance at Watford, while not the best, looked like it was going to end up as a result. From an attacking point of view we got into the final third on 36 occasions and in the penalty area even more so. But we only had seven shots at goal and two on target, so we’re trying to be a bit more creative on the front line. And defensively we were sound apart from the goal we let in. So we have to try to balance the two. Let’s try and be creative and score more. It’s going to be tough against Burnley because they’re very good on their own patch. Michael Keane wants to show how good he is on his return, hopefully he will be solid and sound as he was for Burnley.”

Squads

Burnley made only one change to their squad from their recent draw away at Turf Moor with Southampton. James Tarkowski replaced Kevin Long in the defence and Everton made three changes to the XI named in their defeat at Watford. Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin started, while Seamus Coleman returns at right back. Wayne Rooney and Oumar Niasse were dropped to the bench, while Jonjoe Kenny was not named.
