NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS GO TO SUPER BOWL

Amendola catch sends Brady to HIS eighth Super Bowl - Danny Amendola made a stunning catch to help the New England Patriots beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-20 and send quarterback Tom Brady to his eighth Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, England coach Gareth Southgate will attend the NFL Super Bowl in Minnesota next Sunday and join a convention of managers from across the world to share ideas. Southgate will use the event to speak to other coaches, as he prepares to take England to the 2018 World Cup finals this summer in Russia. The Football Association says he will use the event to explore “best practice” in other areas.

The National Football League showpiece final is being contested by the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles, with the Patriots defending champions and curreently the dominant team in American football. While it has not been disclosed who exactly Southgate will meet with the trip, he regards it as valuable enough to miss a weekend’s Premier League scouting including Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to Liverpool on the same day. The convention is being organized by Leaders in Sport, a private networking organiszation who describe themselves as a “premium invitation-only” forum for “business executives and performance practitioners across the world of sport”.

Southgate has been a keen student of other sports and has already met with the England rugby coach Eddie Jones to exchange ideas, as well as representatives of the English cricket team, and others from rugby league, cycling, boxing, canoe slalom and swimming, all of which has been facilitated by a UK Sport course. Southgate is a keen student of other sports, and has spent time with the England rugby union team.

England’s next friendlies for England will be the games against Holland and Italy in late March, the last games before Southgate names a provisional squad for the World Cup in the summer. The Philadelphia Eagles made history Sunday night after winning their first Super Bowl championship title against the New England Patriots. Although the game was a national headline moment in itself, the Eagles’ strong Christian faith is also grabbing widespread attention. After the Eagles won the Super Bowl game, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, quarterback/MVP Nick Foles, and tight end Zach Ertz—who caught the winning touchdown, all publicly glorified God in their post-game speeches. Additionally, the entire team knelt together in prayer after their big win. Eagles QB and MVP Nick Foles gave glory to God, and Head Coach Doug Pederson said, ‘I can only give the praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving me this opportunity…

On Super Bowl Sunday, Nick Foles, who became the Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback after Carson Wentz tore his ACL in Week 14, hasn't been shy about his Christian faith. He's frequently discussed how his religious faith shapes his life, and on Twitter, Foles’ profile reads, “Believer in Jesus Christ, husband, father, son, brother.”

Being a Christian is so important to Foles that he thinks it will shape his career after he's done with football. He said he dreams of becoming a pastor after he retires.“I want to be a pastor in a high school,” Foles said shortly before Super Bowl 2018 commenced, according to Fox Sports. “It’s on my heart. I took a leap of faith last year and signed up to take classes at seminary. I wanted to continue to learn and challenge my faith. It’s a challenge because you are writing papers that are biblically correct. You want to impact people’s hearts.”

Foles has also credited prayer with giving him the strength to stay in the NFL. According to the Boston Herald, “When Nick Foles speaks, the topic of religion permeates nearly every sound bite.” He's very public about his faith; not only sharing it in interviews, but also sharing it on social media. In July 2017, Foles retweeted this Bible verse: “He forgave us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us. This he nailed to the cross. Colossians 2:13.” Foles isn't alone in being a practicing Christian on the Eagles. The Washington Post post wrote that faith is “a binding force in the team locker room.” Quarterback Carson Wentz is also a follower of Jesus Christ. He's defended his faith in the past when people criticized him for being divisive. “Appreciate that, but offensive and controversial? Two of the main things I tweet about are Jesus and hunting. That’s what I’m passionate about and that won’t ever change! When you love something, you talk about it! Stay convicted about it and don’t worry what others think!” Wentz tweeted. According to FaithWire, the Eagles have even baptized one of their players in a hotel pool. “A photo posted to Twitter shows wide receiver Marcus Johnson being baptized in a hotel pool while surrounded by his teammates,” the site reports. Foles and Wentz were among the group.

The team also holds Bible studies. According to The Christian Post, the Texas-born Foles thanked God for his performance on the football field. “It took a lot more faith to come back and play than it would’ve to go in the other direction,” said Foles. “Either way would’ve been fine. Either way, I would’ve trusted in God. I would’ve done something else and glorified God in that instance. I knew as a person that the more growth I’ve had and the more opportunity I would have to glorify God and trust in him would be to go back and play football."
