Carlos Tevez and Family Have A Beach Day

Carlos Tevez, Shanghai Shenhua, on vacation with his family

CARLOS TEVEZ UPDATE, RUMORS

Shanghai Shenhua’s superstar striker Carlos Tevez, one of the best-paid players in the world with weekly wages of around €730,000, has scored only twice since joining the Chinese Super League (CSL) club in January. On August 16, Shanghai Shenhua denied rumors that Carlos Tevez’s career in China was over and reported that they expected him to return after the Argentine went home for treatment on a muscle injury.

The 33-year-old Argentina international Tevez is one of the highest-paid players in the world with weekly wages of around $850,000 after signing with the Chinese Super League (CSL) club in January from Boca Juniors. Sadly Tevez has missed half of this season’s games with an injury. Due to his poor form and repeated absences, Shanghai fans have turned against Tevez, raising questions over whether he would return after treatment. Tevez previously criticized the standard of Chinese football and hinting he might look for a move.

“No one ever said he would leave,” reported a Shanghai spokesman. “After this Saturday’s game we will have a short break and the whole team will be off until August 28.”

The CSL season is almost over with Shanghai in the bottom half of the table under the management of Uruguayan coach Gus Poyet. The CSL is on break until September 8. During the break, Tevez took the opportunity to seek rehabilitation back in Argentina. Nicknamed “Apache”, Tevez has a history of falling out with clubs and coaches during his career that has included Manchester City, Manchester United, and Juventus. Tevez is due to be back in China by August 30. Tevez fell out with his Man City manager Roberto Mancini when he refused to warm up as a sub in the last moments of a Champions League match against Bayern Munich in September 2011. Tevez flew back to Argentina and considered retiring, before eventually returning to England in February 2012.

Tevez disappointed his Shanghai fans last April when he was spotted at Disneyland on the same day he missed an important match, reportedly due to injury.

Manager Poyet reportedly may be sacked or quit after Shenhua were throttled 5-0 last weekend without Tevez. But they returned to action on Tuesday in the Chinese Cup and, with Tevez out of the country, beat second-tier Shanghai Shenxin 1-0 at home. Tevez admitted he could may leave Shanghai Shenhua at the end of the CSL season when it ends in September. Shanghai sit just four points above the relegation zone after 11 games. The Argentine has struggled to make an impact in the Far East

“I left not to hurt Boca. Honestly, I do not know what I’m going to do at the end of the year,” said Tevez about leaving his boyhood club.  “If I’m hungry for glory, it’s very difficult to stay in the club. I have to find myself to go back, I know I gave them everything. When I left, my silence bothered journalists more than people. The press wanted me to say goodbye with a note, they are difficult. For me it was not easy either. Boca fans always want to see me with that shirt. First, when the millionaire offer came from China, I said no. I had Boca in my head. The final decision was in the last game. I did not want to hurt the club. Flor, my eldest daughter, went down to the dressing room asking me not to leave. It was easy to stay, the fans love me, but I did the difficult thing.”

ALEXIS SANCHEZ UPDATE, RUMORS

Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal

Rumor has it that Manchester City are once again linked with a move for Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, with the latest rumor saying the Citizens will offer £70 million to land the Chilean before the end of the summer transfer window. Reportedly Man City’s manager Pep Guardiola still want to land Sanchez, despite determined statements from the Gunners that they will not sell their star forward under any circumstances. Reportedly Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will not sell the former Barcelona man, even though he only has one year left on his contract:

"It is a financial sacrifice. It is a sacrifice that you have to calculate how much it costs. If you let the player go and you buy somebody, you maybe spend more than you lose,” said Wenger. "And if you extend the contract it maybe costs you more than you lose when you keep the player."

Gunners veteran manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly intending to sign Sanchez to a new contract to no avail. Sanchez has made it clear to Manchester City that he wants to move to the Etihad Stadium when his contract ends, despite interest from other clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain. Of course, the Gunners do not intend to strengthen their arch-rivals Man City. A significant fee could force Wenger's hand, although the capable tactician seems determined not to give in. Sanchez was key in the Gunners’ earning a spot in the UEFA Champions League and could be key again next season, a good reason to hang onto him for one more season.
