Cristiano Ronaldo is on top of Forbes' football's rich list, with the 20 highest paid football players making around $563 million between them. European football's top 20 highest earners earned $563 million over the last campaign, with Cristiano Ronaldo topping Forbes' rich list again. Real Madrid's Ronaldo reportedly earned $82m in wages and endorsements. That put him ahead of Barcelona arch-rival Lionel Messi ($77m), with former PSG star - Manchester United’s injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic third at $37m. Eight giant clubs are represented on the list, with Premier League club Manchester City with four players. Spanish La Liga champions Real Madrid, named by Forbes as the richest club in the world four years running, have three players on the list, with Gareth Bale ($34m) in fifth and James Rodriguez ($21m) 11th. Rodriguez now features for Bayern Munich. No player from Italy Serie A was on the list, while there are 10 men named to the list from English clubs displaying the English Premier League's financial clout in European football. Notably, Ronaldo's earnings surpassed the combined total of the Premier League's leading trio of Wayne Rooney ($26m), Sergio Aguero ($24m) and Eden Hazard ($22m).
