Harry Kane to captain for England in World Cup qualifier against Scotland at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Saturday

Tottenham Hotspur superstar striker Harry Kane poses with his second Premier League Golden Boot award. Kane scored 29 Premier League goals to win Golden Boot

World Cup 2018 Qualifiers Group F leaders England are 6 points clear of 4th-placed Scotland with five games remaining in the group stage. England play Scotland on Saturday with Harry Kane as captain, and face France in a friendly three days later.

“We’re focusing on us, what we’re good at. We know the environment we’re coming into. We know the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition. We’re clear on how we want to play, and how to react in certain moments of the game to get the win. Harry Kane has super leadership qualities, a strong mentality. He wants to be one of the best players in the world and you can’t have too many players like that in your team, said England manager Gareth Southgate before the clash.”

"I wanted to give him that boost," added Southgate. "He was pretty chuffed. It's a great honor. We have several players who have excellent leadership qualities," continued Southgate. "Harry is a player who we have worked with in the Under-21s before. He's got a terrific mentality and I know he is delighted to be leading the team."

Harry Kane came off the bench to score in the 4-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win at Wembley after replacing Wayne Rooney. Kane is determined to work goalkeepers - Kane has an amazing 51 goals in 2 seasons. He works incredibly hard at his game.

Tottenham Hotspur’s superstar striker Harry Kane will captain the Three Lions at Hampden in Saturday's World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park. It will be Kane’s first appearance for England since September 2016 due to injury. England’s last permanent skipper was Manchester United superstar Wayne Rooney who has been omitted from the squad for the Scotland match. Kane will be making his 18th appearance for his country, having made his debut for the England senior side against Lithuania with boss Roy Hodgson on March 27, 2015. Kane who is England's 119thcaptain scored 35 goals in 38 league and cup appearances for Premier League runners-up Spurs in 2016-17.

Harry Kane’s England team-mate Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana was delighted about Southgate’s decision.

"I'm absolutely delighted for Harry,” said Lallana. “I've been so impressed by him. He's demonstrated why he's one of the world's best players."

Kane’s is not a permanent appointment as England’s manager. Gareth Southgate stressed that he is developing a group of five or six leaders who can play that role for England in addition to Rooney and Kane.

Wayne Rooney, 31, is England's all-time leading goal-scorer with 53 goals in 119 appearances.

"Wayne is a massive influence around the whole squad," said Manchester United teenager teammate Marcus Rashford. "He still has a lot to do in his career. There's still a lot of trophies he'll hope to be playing for. Knowing Wayne, it's nowhere near over."

Rooney did not feature in England's previous squad in March because he was not fully fit after a leg injury.

Rashford scored on his England debut in a 2-1 victory against Australia last May. Rashford’s inclusion in the senior squad for the Scotland match means he will miss this summer's Under-21 European Championship. The FA has said that young players need tournament experience. To date, Rashford has won eight caps. Rashford played 58 games for United and England this season, scoring 11 goals, having broken into his club's first-team the last term and been part of the Three Lions' Euro 2016 squad.

"We both look at it on the same side of things, so it's important to be on the same page," said Rashford about his boss. "Whatever age group you're called up to, it's important to have the mindset that you're going to achieve great things. To me, I have not been fast-tracked, there's been a lot of games. I feel comfortable in the position I'm in. England and United have both dealt with it in a positive way and they are dealing with the situation well. A lot of it is mental. If you prepare yourself mentally the right way then physically you'll be able to push yourself through it."

Rashford who featured in 53 games for Manchester United this season, started in Manchester United's Europa League Final 2017 win against Ajax.

"To me, I already know it is happening because I'm working hard in training every day," said Rashford. "I can see the development in myself, but for me to be playing and scoring goals is proof. It's a process and you have to believe in the process and buy into it. There are times you think you should be pushing and doing more, but in reality you should be patient. My all-around game has gone to another level and the way my brain thinks when I'm in certain situations on the pitch is different to what it was a year ago."

"It possibly will be one of the toughest I've faced so far," Rashford said of the Hampden crowd. "For me, I'm hoping so because it's another experience I can tick off the list."

"This is a wonderful occasion, but I’ve not spoken too much about that. They’ll feel that atmosphere when they get out. I don’t think I can describe it to them until they get out there, they’ll have to discover that for themselves. The lads have made me feel confident that we can do something today and put in a performance. They will show that to the fans today," said Gordon Strachan, Scotland manager before the game.”
