EPL TOP GOAL SCORERS: DIEGO COSTA

Chelsea’s Diego Costa celebrates with his mates after scoring his 17th goal of the season in Chelsea's win at West Ham.

EPL TOP GOAL SCORERS: DIEGO COSTA

Premier League Top Goal Scorers: Diego Costa

Of note is that two of the top goal scorers in the Premier League - Diego Costa and Eden Hazard - both play for league leaders Chelsea. This season Harry Kane, Tottenham Hotspur; Romelu Lukaku, Everton; Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal; Diego Costa, Chelsea; Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Manchester United; Jermain Defoe, Sunderland; Dele Ali, Tottenham Hotspur; Kun Aguero, Manchester City; Sadio Mane, Liverpool; and Eden Hazard, Chelsea are the top 10 goal scorers to date in the England Premier League. Chelsea’s top goal scorers this season to date are Diego Costa with 17 goals and Eden Hazard with 11 goals. Chelsea is still in first place on the 2016-17 England Premier League Table. Tottenham Hotspur is in second, Manchester City is in third, Arsenal is in fourth, Liverpool is in fifth, Manchester United in in sixth, and Everton is in seventh.

Premier League: West Ham United 1-2 Chelsea

West Ham goal: Manuel Lanzini 90 +1:51

Chelsea goals: Eden Hazard 25, Diego Costa 50

Chelsea defeated West Ham and moved ahead 10 points clear at the top of EPL Table due to goals from Diego Costa and Eden Hazard. The win ensures Conte’s side have a ten-point lead going into the final 12 EPL matches of the 2016-17 campaign. Only a fall of epic proportions will see the title go to another club in May.

Hazard opened the match scoring for the Blues at 25’. Chelsea doubled their lead after the break when Diego Costa converted Cesc Fabregas’ corner, ambitious for all three points. Manuel Lanzini scored a consolation goal for West Ham United in injury-time.

After the victory, the Blue’s top goal-scorer Diego Costa has warned his Chelsea teammates against falling into complacency as they look to wrap up the Premier League silverware. By beating London rivals West Ham 2-1 the Blues restored their 10-point advantage over second-placed Tottenham Hotspur. With eleven league games remaining, Antonio Conte’s side are the favorites to win the title, however Costa insists nothing is guaranteed at the point.

“We can’t go onto the pitch with the mind-set of thinking we’re champions already - that we have the title wrapped up,” said Costa. ”There’s still a long way to go. We do have a good advantage but we have to keep doing what we’re doing. We just have to try and keep winning and take it one step at a time.”

Chelsea’s prolific striker Diego Costa said that his training-round row with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte earlier in the season was "nothing," saying he is fully focused on winning the Premier League. Reportedly Costa had been dropped from the squad to play Leicester City in January after a heated argument with Conte over a back injury. The incident happened days after a lucrative approach from Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian but Costa was back to the starting lineup, scoring on his return against Hull City the following weekend. Tianjin later confirmed that Chelsea's unwillingness to consider offers had killed any potential deal.

"It was nothing," Costa said about the row after he had scored in Chelsea's 2-1 win at West Ham on Monday. People here [in England] make up a lot of stuff. Things happen, but I'm showing now that there's nothing to it. I'm playing and scoring goals, and that's the important thing. Everyone knows that anything I say has bigger repercussions than what it was. The manager is someone who works us really hard in training. He's got his personality just like I've got mine and others have theirs, but the important thing is to show your personality in a way that benefits the team. This is what's happening. Everyone is on the same page and that's the way we have to go."

Costa said the win at West Ham revealed the difference in playing West Ham since their move to the London Stadium from Upton Park at the start of this season.

"They were always a difficult team to play in their old ground,” said Costa. “It was always a tough game. When they come to a bigger pitch, with the crowd further from the players, maybe they don't feel the same heat from the crowd. For us or other teams that come here it's almost like coming to a neutral ground, because no one's used to be playing here. It's more equal."

Chelsea has a massive10-point lead at the top of the Premier League with 11 matches remaining, but Costa warned about being over-confident.

"There's still a long way to go. We do have a good advantage but we have to keep doing what we're doing. We just have to try and keep winning and take it one step at a time," said Costa.

Chelsea superstar Brazilian midfielder David Luiz put in a solid display and was a key player in the Blues 2-1 win over London rivals West Ham at the London Stadium on Monday evening. According to former Chelsea player Frank Lampard, Luiz is the best center-half currently competing in the England Premier League. The defender spent three years at Stamford Bridge between 2011 - 2014 before joining Paris Saint-Germain for £50million. Chelsea brought him back to west London for £34m last summer. Since then the 29-year-old has been a mainstay in Antonio Conte’s Blues’ side this term, helping Chelsea in their ambitious title race.

“He’s matured, he was a very good player before he left for PSG,” said Lampard. “His defensive work has been brilliant, he’s certainly improved and grown up as a man. He’s probably the best centre-half in the league right now.”

With the league title looking pretty much wrapped up by Chelsea this season, attention is already on the nominees for the PFA Player of the Year award. Chelsea’s stunning defensive midfielder N’Golo Kante is strongly in the running after playing in all but one of the side’s clashes this term giving Conte’s side just what they needed to win. Perhaps Kante deserves the Player of the Year award alongside his second Premier League medal. Kante was overlooked in favor of Riyad Mahrez for the award last season and ended up in third behind Jamie Vardy after the Foxes’ historic fairy-tale campaign. This season team-mates Hazard and Diego Costa are also top favortes along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
