Sergio Aguero scores for top of EPL side Manchester City

Manchester City remains on top of the England Premier League Table with fifteen points going into EPL Match Week 5, followed by Everton with 13 points, and Tottenham Hotspur with 11 points. Stoke City and Sunderland are at the absolute bottom of the table with only 1 point each.

Manchester City is enjoying a perfect start to the 2016 - 2017 England Premier League season with five wins from five games under the leadership of new City boss Pep Guardiola.

"We are happy but we know that still we have a lot of things to do to get better," said Guardiola after Man City’s 4-0 victory against AFC Bournemouth. "I know we are going to lose some games and it is important when that happens to be stable and not forget what you must do."

Man City striker Sergio Aguero has nearly completed his three match suspension, but will remain out of Pep Guardiola’s side for this week’s EFL Cup match against Swansea. The third round EPL Cup tie on Wednesday night will count towards the suspension handed to Aguero for elbowing West Ham’s Winston Reid. The Argentinean striker will be available to play for Man City against Swansea in Saturday’s Premier League clash.

Originally, the suspension for Aguero was seen as a major setback to Guardiola’s side, however City have excelled in his absence. City won the Manchester Derby defeating Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford and then beat Bournemouth 4-0 last weekend. Kelechi Iheanacho started both games in the absence of Aguero. Back-up striker Kelechi Iheanacho scored in both games, as did Kevin de Bruyne which gives Guardiola selection options in the future.

Belgian international, Kevin de Bruyne has scored crucial goals for Manchester City this season, continuing to impress his new manager Pep Guardiola. De Bruyne, was signed by Man City last summer. Guardiola claims the 25-year-old striker is second only to Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

“Messi is on a table on his own,” said Guardiola . “No-one else is allowed. But the table beside, Kevin can sit there.”

De Bruyne has been an offensive focal point for Guardiola, and the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach praised the Belgium’s defensive talent as well.

“Kevin is an outstanding player,” said Guardiola. “Without the ball, he is the first fighter. With the ball, he is clear. He sees absolutely everything. He makes the right decision in the right moment every single time.”

Pep Guardiola is still enjoying the afterglow of his side’s 4-0 win against Bournemouth in Week 5 - the club’s eighth victory from eight games this season counting the Champions League tournament. City, the Premier League leaders to date, have scored 25 goals in all competitions and are the only side with a 100% record.

Asked about his promising start at City compared to his two previous clubs, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, Guardiola replied, “I have to be honest, it’s quick, I didn’t expect that. I am surprised how long we are able to play good levels. All the players create more chances than the opponents, we concede less chances than the opponents and that is the most important thing.”

Guardiola is guarded when asked if his aim was to win all four competitions this season.

“Manchester City arrived in the Champions League semi-final once, so when the people believe I am going to win the Champions League because I am a really good coach, I don’t think so. My happiness does not depend on if I am going to win all the titles or not. My target is now to be happy today, drink a little bit of wine and prepare the next game – and of course I am going to try to win that League Cup game."

Guardiola is considering giving Vincent Kompany his first start this season on Wednesday in the EFL Cup tie at Swansea but David Silva may not be fit until the return trip there in the league on Saturday.

Last season City started well under now retired manager Manuel Pellegrini, but ended the season battling for fourth with Manchester United.
