Manchester United re-sign Paul Pogba for world-record £89m

France midfielder Paul Pogba is back at Old Trafford after a four year term with Italian Serie A giants Juventus! Pogba left the Red Devils to play for Juve for £1.5m in 2012.

"The time is right to go back to Old Trafford,” said twenty-three-year-old Pogba after signing a five-year deal. "This is the right club for me to achieve everything I hope to."

Pogba’s new boss Jose Mourinho said the France international might be "the heart of the club" for the next decade.

Pogba won 38 caps for France, the Coppa Italia twice, and the Serie A title with Juventus four times while helping France reach the Euro 2016 final. Pogba won the Serie A league trophy in each of his four seasons at Juventus. He is Mourinho's fourth signing at Man United: Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly, Swedish superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Armenia forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Italian titans Juve thanked Pogba for "four years of triumphs lived together", which included nine trophies in total, releasing a statement 'Merci Paul', saying Pogba would remain "etched in the collective imagination". Juve made a total 72.6m euros (£61.9m) profit from the deal.

United will pay Juve 105m euros for Pogba, plus five million euros (£4.5m) in performance-related bonuses, and other costs, including five million euros if Pogba signs a new contract. The fee is more than the £85m Spanish La Liga titans Real Madrid paid Tottenham for Wales forward Gareth Bale in 2013.

"This transfer took so long because it was a huge decision and involved lots of thinking and work," said Pogba on Tuesday.

"I am delighted to rejoin United," Pogba said. "It has always been a club with a special place in my heart and I am really looking forward to working with Jose Mourinho. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Juventus and have some fantastic memories of a great club with players that I count as friends.”

Manchester United fans are excited by their side's 2-1 FA Community Shield win over Leicester City on Sunday, and the signing of Paul Pogba is even more cause for celebration. Pogba is a superstar that should shine playing along with veteran superstars captain Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Paul Pogba History with Manchester United, France, and Juventus

Pogba came to Man United from French club Le Havre in 2009 as a 16-year-old, making only seven appearances before his contract expired in July 2012.

"When I first came, I remember when I was at the academy. I saw Warren Joyce, I remember the training we had with him, the changing room, the canteen where we eat. It is just the same and I was thinking about before. It was like a picture. It is something I cannot explain - it's crazy. I just feel happy. There is no words, to be honest, no words - just happiness, and I just can't wait to start playing with my new team. It doesn't even look like it's my new team - I just left this team and have just come back. It is just a great feeling to be honest."

In 2014, Pogba said he left United "frustrated" and "disgusted" because former manager Sir Alex Ferguson did not play him.

After transferring to Juve, Pogba made 178 appearances for the Italian club, scoring 34 goals for Juventus, and helping the club reach the 2015 Champions League final.

Pogba chose Manchester United and Jose Mourinho even though Juve offered him a new contract, and Real Madrid also expressed interest in signing him.

Pogba said his mother said that it was his "destiny" to return to United.

"It was like I'd just come back home. I just went for a holiday", said Pogba.

After speaking to to Mourinho "a few times" and checking with other footballers that had played for the chosen one, Pogba was convinced.

"I spoke with a lot of players (about how he was to play for) when he was at Madrid - I spoke with Morata and Varane - and they all told me: 'he is a coach for me - he will make me improve a lot, because he makes you work harder'. I feel this. I spoke with him a few times and he gave me energy and positivity. So I was thinking: 'why not?' I'm sure he can make me improve and make me a better player and a better person," said Pogba. "I want to win the league for the first time with United, because I hadn't won the league when I left. The Champions League of course. And, personally, one of my dreams is to win the Ballon d'Or. That will come with time, hopefully, but first I want to win the Premier League, which I have never done."

Pogba responded to a question about Jesse Lingard and other footballers he played with in the past at United.

"Yes. We always kept talking. I kept in touch with him and I am very happy for him, for what he is doing. I'm proud of him because he just kept it up. I know he went on loan, came back, went on loan again, and it was just Jesse Lingard scoring goals as always. I am very happy for him. I see Sam Johnstone too, Will Keane, and some other players, some players who went away but we keep in touch. I'm very happy for them.”

Pogba wants to make his fans happy.

"I'm back and I can't wait to make them happy, to show them that I'm still Paul Pogba but in a different way and to show them I came here not to joke but to make them happy and to make them win the league. That is why I came here."

Pogba said how he felt about saying goodbye to his teammates at Juve.

“Goodbye means nothing, it is the time we spent together that matters. I will bring with me a piece of you and leave you a little piece of me."

Reactions to signing of Paul Pogba

Former France striker Thierry Henry believes he can go on to become "one of the best in history". World Cup winner Patrick Vieira described him as an "extraordinary player". Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs said Pogba "has got everything". Zinedine Zidane said that Pogba is a "complete player". Former United midfielder Paul Scholes had questioned Pogba's £89m valuation, saying he was "nowhere worth that kind of money yet".

Former England striker Gary Lineker said, "The signing of Pogba by Man Utd is a watershed moment for the Premier League. First time a huge foreign star in his prime has come to England and now more of the greats will come here and not just to Barca and Real Madrid". Former United and England star Gary Neville said, "I think it is a big fee, but the Premier League was losing players left, right and centre to Spain - all the grade A players. We couldn't entice players to come here and we couldn't keep them when we had the best ones. At least now it looks like we are signing a player who would be regarded as a top signing of the summer."

Man United manager Jose Mourinho is obviously delighted with his new signing! Reportedly Mourinho told Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp they will never understand Manchester United’s £89 million world record signing of Paul Pogba because Arsenal and Liverpool are not big enough clubs to pull off such deals.
