INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLIES: ENGLAND 2 - 1 AUSTRALIA

Rashford and Rooney score in England 2-1 victory against Australia

Teenager Marcus Rashford hit his debut goal for England inside three minutes at the Stadium of Light. England and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney came off the bench to double the advantage in the second half. Australia’s only goal came when Eric Dier came off England's substitute's bench to score an own goal.

Friday's match featuring England v Australia at Sunderland's Stadium of Light was the 2nd of 3 warm-up friendly games before Euro 2016 starts on June 10 in France.

Eighteen year-old Marcus Rashford made his debut for England against Australia at the Stadium of Light on Friday night. Roy Hodgson said before the game that the “world will be watching” the teenager only three months after Rashford made his first England Premier League appearance for Manchester United.

Before the match against Australia, England manager Roy Hodgson said he was reluctant “to thrust Rashford into the spotlight following his incredible rise to prominence at United, for whom he scored 8 goals in 18 games during the final three months of the season”.

After defeating Turkey 2 - 1 in their first Euro 2016 warm up friendly, England defeated Australia 2 - 1 at the Stadium of Light in their second warm up match before the Three Lions big Euro 2016 kick off clash against Russia in Marseille, France next month.

Euro 2016 is just just around the corner and Friday's game against Australia was the Three Lions side’s last chance to impress Roy Hodgson's before the England boss names his final 23 to travel to France. Before the game with the Socceroos, Hodgson had already named a 26-man provisional line-up. Ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA deadline for his final squad list, Hodson will cut two names after the friendly with Australia.

Marcus Rashford looks likely to be chosen for Hodson's Euro 2016 final side as the eighteen-year-old continues to amaze with his remarkable ability to score important goals under pressure. Rashford’s first shot for Manchester United in his Premier League debut was a goal! He scored a goal in his Europa League debut. And Rashford’s first shot for England in international competition was also a goal, making him the youngest football player in history to score on his England debut.

In other friendly matches this week, Northern Ireland defeated Belarus 3 - 0, and Republic of Ireland drew 1 - 1 with Holland.

There is one more England friendly match coming up against Portugal at Wembley before Euro 2016 begins in France – the last Three Lions game before England manager Roy Hodson chooses his 23 man side for France. Buy England versus Portugal tickets now to attend the exciting match.
