It was Bale versus Hart as Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale sent a strike at Manchester City’s superstar goalie Joe Hart in an attempt to open the scoring 20 minutes into the first half of the second leg of the semi-finals tie between Real and Man City. However the shot was deflected by Man City midfielder Fernando into his own net for an extremely embarrassing own goal at the Bernabeu on Wednesday to end City’s Champions League hopes and to give Real Madrid a 1-0 win on the night and on aggregate, sending Real through to face arch-rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Final match on Saturday May 28.

Zinedine Zidane, manager Real Madrid, and Manuel Pelligrini, head coach Manchester City – Real Madrid v Manchester City FC, UEFA Champions League Semi Final Second Leg

Real Madrid is on fire since boss Frenchman Zinedine Zidane has taken his new side from being kicked out of the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player and being humiliated by Barca 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu, to being only one game away from being crowned “Kings of Europe”.

Zidane is regarded by some as ‘the coolest man on the planet’.

Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is happier and his game has picked up since Benitez was replaced by Zidane on January 4, 2016.

“Zidane is doing a great job. He’s helping us and we are helping him. I admire him as a coach and a person, I hope he continues in the job,’ said Ronaldo. ‘We’ve always been behind Zidane because he is a humble person who likes to listen, and that always makes things easier. I’m very happy.’

And with only two remaining La Liga matches, Real Madrid are still in the hunt for the league title and a top four Spanish Primera League finish in order to qualify for the Champions League again in the 2016 – 2017 season.

This will be Real Madrid’s 14th Champions League final. Real Madrid has won the Champions League ten times in1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1966, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2014; and they have been runners-up 3 times in 1962, 1964, 1981.

Atletico Madrid has yet to bring the glory and prestige of winning the Champions League to their fans – but look to be capable of doing so this time.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane took over from Rafa Benitez in January 2016. Zidane sees the upcoming CL final against Atletico as a “50-50” game – meaning both clubs have an equal chance of winning - after Real booked their spot to play Atletico Madrid in a repeat of the 2014 final in the most prestigious showpiece in Europe.
