Joe Hart, Manchester City

Hart keeps City level in CL semi first leg: Manchester City 0 – 0 Real Madrid

Man City goalkeeper Joe Hart emerged a hero in City’s first ever Champions League semi-final match in their history played at home against titan Spanish La Liga club Real Madrid. Hart kept a clean sheet throughout the clash and made an amazing save on a late Pepe shot from two yards out and produced a stunning block from Casemiro's free header.

Hart has the most clean sheets this season of any goalie in the England Premier League. Manchester City kept a clean sheet at home versus Real Madrid thanks to Joe Hart's late save on a Pepe shot from two yards out.

It seemed like the entire City of Manchester was excited and looking forward to Tuesday’s historical Champions League game beween City who have never before gotten to the semis and 10 time winner Real Madrid. Football fans lucky enough to have tickets for the 1st leg of the semi-finals tie were roaring in their coveted seats hoping for a victory for their side in an extrordinary atmosphere.

However, a goaless first leg was the result, with Manuel Pellegrini’s men needing only a score draw in the second leg in Madrid to go through to the Champions League Final in Milan, Italy on May 28. The match stalemate was mostly due to outstanding defence performances by Real Madrid’s Navas, Modric, and Kroos, and Manchester City’s Hart, Fernandinho, and Fernando.

After the match, Hart remarked that his side were pleased with the result saying, "We set it up for a good, old-fashioned rumble in the Bernabeu - and we are going to be ready for it!"

"The whole side is fit. We have a brilliant side"

Kevin De Bruyne made the only shot on target for Man City at Etihad Stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo was out due to injury, and Karim Benzema left the match at half-time due to a fitness problem. Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is confident that Ronaldo will be back for next Wednesday's Champions League semifinal 2nd leg at home against Manchester City.

The Real Madrid v Man City tie is finely balanced ahead of the return game at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bacary Sagna, Man City and Gareth Bale, Real Madrid

Real’s Gareth Bale expressed confidence for the upcoming home leg.

"We knew Cris was injured this afternoon and Karim had a little problem at half-time," said Bale. "But we're all united as a team and just get on with it.

"For us to keep a clean sheet here is very important, we would have liked to have nicked a goal but it wasn't to be. It opened up a bit in the second half, we were unlucky not to get a few penalties and a goal,” added Bale. "We were trying to make fewer mistakes than against Wolfsburg, when we went for the kill right away and put ourselves in trouble.”

"We're very strong at home, the crowd get behind us, it's a big pitch and we like to score goals there."
