BARCLAY’S PREMIERSHIP: SWANSEA CITY 0-3 LEICESTER CITY

Leicester City go to top of England Premiership in fairy tale style

Today, Riyad Mahrez’s clinical hat trick, his first ever, sent Leicester to the top of the Premiership with a decent lead.

Algerian Mahrez who has been key to Leicester’s success this campaign opened the scoring at 5 minutes then scored again at 22 minutes and 67 minutes bringing his total this season to 10 league goals.

As a result of their loss today, Garry Monks’  Swans are getting close to the relegation zone, having won only one of their last 11 league matches.

Twenty-four year old Mahrez's scrappy opening goal at five minutes set the tone as Leicester dominated the first half. Mahrez scored a second at 22 minutes although appearing to be off-side.

Swansea did not put up much of a fight and their fans booed the home side as they left the field at half-time.

In the second half, Monk's side tried harder as Ki and Gylfi Sigurdsson came close to scoring.

However Leicester remained in control with a fierce counter-attack involving Leonardo Ulloa and Vardy led to Mahrez's goal making it 3-0 in favor of the Foxes.

To date, Leicester's Jamie Vardy had set a Premiership record by scoring in 11 successive games in their clash with Manchester United.

England striker Vardy is the brunt of increasing transfer speculation – especially after he beat Ruud van Nistelrooy's Premier League achievement in the Foxes’ 1-1 draw with Manchester United last Saturday. Vardy next will aim to best Jimmy Dunne’s record of 12 goals in consecutive games set in the old First Division in 1931-32.

Will the Foxes fall off the wagon?

Leicester currently have a decent lead of two points clear at the top of the table as the Foxes find themselves in the unlikely position of being early title challengers.

With the busy festive period coming up, Leicester will face superclubs Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, and Man City in December as they fight for a spot in next year’s Champions League and Premiership glory.
