England Premiership Manchester United Update : Man United v Swansea City

With newly appointed captain Wayne Rooney on board and new Man United manager Luis van Gaal at the helm, Man Utd will open their Premiership home season by hosting Swansea City at Old Trafford on August 16th.

Rooney is shining under the leadership of new boss, van Gaal. Roo scored three times in his four games as team captain last season.

Fans are hoping that Rooney and van Gaal will lead the Red Devils back up the ladder to top of the table – even regaining United’s Premiership title they lost to Manchester City last season.

Man United have never lost a Premiership season opening clash at Old Traffod nor have they ever lost a Premier League match against Swansea at Old Trafford. And to date, the Swans have never defeated United in Premiership competition.

Manchester United will not compete in the Champions League for the first time in 25 years this season after finishing in seventh place in their worst Premiership season ever last campaign with a total of only 64 points – their lowest tally since the 1990-91 season.

United ended their 2013-14 Premier League season 22 points behind their “noisy neighbors” Manchester City who won the league title and Premiership silverware away from them. United ended their 2014-15 Premiership campaign with a 1-1 draw away against Southampton.

In August, next Manchester United will travel to Sunderland to compete at the Stadium of Light on August 24th and then play against Burnley at TurfMoor Stadium on August 30th.
