Reportedly superstar striker Wayne Rooney may miss Sir Alex Ferguson’s emotional farewell clash after asking to leave the club for a second time two weeks ago.

Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich have all expressed interest in signing Rooney.

Reportedly United would only consider selling Rooney this summer if they can get upwards of £25million for him. Rooney has two years left on his current contract.

Rooney refuses to comment on the situation, but it seems Roo wants a new challenge after being in and out of the United team this season. The summer arrival of the Rooney's former Everton manager David Moyes at Old Trafford is unlikely to see the player stay.

Rooney threatened to leave United in 2010 before eventually signing a new £220,000-a-week deal.

The potential return of Ronaldo, who spent six years at Old Trafford between 2003 and 2009 before leaving for Real in an £80m deal, may affect Rooney's decicion to stay or go.

He and Rooney won three League titles and the Champions League together.

During an emotional morning meeting with his side today, Ferguson explained the reasons for his departure at the end of this season.

Ferguson had planned to break the news of his retirement to United fans after he received the Premiership trophy at Old Trafford on Sunday when he made his end-of-season address with his 20th title trophy in hand.

A source close to Ferguson said: “Sir Alex is raging that someone very close let him down.”

Ferguson will bow out at the West Bromwich Albion clash next weekend at his 1,500th match in charge.

Man United released a statement on Wednesday morning confirming that Ferguson is retiring.

'The quality of this league-winning squad, and the balance of ages within it, bodes well for continued success at the highest level, while the structure of the youth set-up will ensure that the long-term future of the club remains a bright one.'
