The draw has repercussions in the race for 2013-14 Champions League qualification as Chelsea stay in fourth place, now one point behind Arsenal, with a game in hand. Chelsea are only one point above the SpursLiverpool are five points behind Everton, who are a place above them in sixth. The teams meet at Anfield on 5 May.

Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez went into the match determined to stay focused and unsentimental as his men face his former club.

"My commitment is with Chelsea and I will use common sense and do what I have to do, concentrate on games, try to get three points," said Benitez before the match.

At 26 minutes, Oscar opened the scoring for FC Chelsea with a soft header from the corner past Pepe Reina. 

After a chop at Oscar by David Henderson, David Luiz missed his free-kick at 35 yards out. Then Fernando Torres is booked after an aerial clash and elbow at former team-mate Jamie Carragher. 

At 52 minutes, Liverpool went level at 1-1 with a goal from Daniel Sturridge from a cross from Luis Suarez. 

At 55 minutes, Luis Suarez is booked for a handball. Eden Hazard scored a penalty spot-kick into the corner at 57 minutes as Pepe Reina went the other way.

Later, Jamie Carragher is booked for a clash with Fernando Torres resulting in angry words from Carragher with his ex team-mate.

Replays show Luis Suarez attempting to bite the arm of Branislav Ivanovic in a beastial tackle. However no red card was given to Suarez. Suarez was previously given a seven-match ban in 2010 for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal's shoulder when he played for Ajax.

Liverpool's sub Jonjo Shelvey is booked for a hard tackle that grounds Oscar. Oscar went off replaced by Victor Moses.

Frank Lampard comes on for Juan Mata in stoppage time with six minutes added on.

Luis Suarez heads home Daniel Sturridge's cross just before the end of the match at 96 minuets - Liverpool 2-2 Chelsea.

The 2-2 draw with Liverpool means that Chelsea finished in fourth place on the Premiership table, one point behind Arsenal, with a game in hand. Chelsea are only one point above fifth-placed Tottenham, who are in the Europa League qualifying spot, having played the same number of games.
