Premiership : Stoke 0-2 Manchester United

Van Persie's celebrated his goal that ended a run of 10 games without a goal with a running leap at his Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson and a hug.

Van Persie scored from the penalty spot to make the score 0-2 during the Barclays Premier League match between Stoke City and Manchester United at the Britannia Stadium on April 14, 2013 in Stoke on Trent, England.

Van Persie said he is "relieved and happy" to have ended his United goal drought - after scoring his first goal in over two months to help his team win 2-0 at Stoke after Michael Carrick gave United an early lead.

"It was an important point in the game. I had to score that one and thankfully it went in so after that the relief of a couple of weeks came out," said Van Persie. "I wanted to celebrate it with everyone, with the players, with the staff, all the players involved even on the bench because they have been great with me from day one.

'Even when it was sometimes a little bit harder they still believed in me and they still support me and help me wherever they can so that's why I wanted to join them.'

Van Persie sprinted to Ferguson to give him a warm embrace.

'He nearly killed me. He forgets I'm 71," said Sir Alex.

United need only seven points to ensure that they regain the Premier League title from Man City. And Van Persie said that beating the Premier League points record is now United's main focus.
