Premier League Results - Chelsea 2-1 Sunderland
Chelsea moved up the Premier League ladder into third place behind Manchester City as the London Blues earned a victory over Sunderland today.
Fernando Torres came into the game in the second half, playing in a mask after suffering a broken nose, to replace Demba Ba who went out of the match with an injury after a hard tackle.
Chelsea’s goals were scored by Kilgallon (og 47′) and Ivanovic (55′) and Sunderland’s goal was scored Azpilicueta (og 45′).
Sunderland scored the first freak goal with an own goal from Chelsea's Azpilicueta.
Oscar made a shot that ended in the net to open the scoring for Chelsea via Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet and Kilgallon, who was debited with the own goal for the second freak point.
Chelsea went ahead after 55 minutes, with Ivanovic scoring the winner as he reacted quickly to divert Luiz's long-range shot out of the reach of Mignolet.
Chelsea boss, Rafa Benitez was pleased with the results.
"We needed to improve after the break obviously. The negative thing is we conceded a goal, the positive thing is we recovered and came back," said Benetiz after the match.
"In the last 15 minutes we were a bit under pressure, but after four games in eight days that has to be expected.
"Sunderland have a new manager, they were compact and organised so it was not easy to find space. Some players are a bit tired, but after so many games it is not easy and you have to change players."
