England's star striker, Wayne Rooney, 27, opened the scoring, his 33rd in 79 games for England. Brazil's Fred equalised in the second half - but Frank Lampard scored the late winner.

"Brazil are a fantastic team, but we played very well,” said Rooney. “We earned the victory but at times we were very close to suffering more goals. But England did a fantastic job to win."

Twenty-one year old Jack Wilshere made his season debut for England after being out 18 months due to injury. Popular Arsenal midfielder Wilshere, played a major role in both England goals.

"It's the player to be monitored over the next 10, 15 years. We are well served," said Rooney.
