FC Chelsea Update - FA Cup 3rd Round, Capital One Cup

FC Chelsea Update - FA Cup 3rd Round, Capital One Cup, England Premier League

Current European Champions, Chelsea have enjoyed four consecutive league games - and now they will compete in two cup matches in a row, beginning with the start of the second half of the season's FA Cup campaign.

New Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez is busy pondering the club's priorities over the next week, with a Capital One Cup semi-final first leg coming in midweek, ahead of a league trip to Stoke on Saturday.

Some of his players seemed tired in their defeat at home to QPR, which saw the Blues remain in fourth place in the Premiership, behind Manchester City in second and Manchester United in first.

Members of the team out with injuries and suspensions include John Terry, Frank Lampard, David Luiz, John Mikel Obi and Oriol Romeu. As a result, new striker Demba Ba, who is cup-tied for the Europa League, may be called into action straight away at the Dell.

This is Chelsea's first visit to St Mary's in eight years as they travel to battle for the FA Cup for the seventh time in their history. In recent times, Chelsea has won the FA Cup three times in the last four seasons.

The FA Cup is one of the world's most popular competition for football clubs and most coveted trophies.

Only Tottenham (eight times, most recent 1991), Arsenal (10, 2005) and Manchester United (11, 2004) have won the FA Cup more times.

"I say this coming from Uruguay, where there is no cup and from Spain where there is the Copa Del Rey - but the FA Cup is the greatest cup in the world," said FA Cup 2000 trophy-winner Gustavo Poyet.

Didier Drogba

Playing for Chelsea, Didier Drogba, became the first player to score in four FA Cup finals, winning on each occasion, including the first at the new Wembley in 2007.

The draw for the FA Cup fourth round is late Sunday afternoon. Buy 2013 FA Cup tickets online.
