Chelsea replaced Champions League-winning coach Roberto Di Matteo with former-Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez this week.

The Barcelona superstar thinks pressure may have accounted for Di Matteo’s Chelsea departure despite his winning the Champions League and FA Cup last season..

Messi has said he understands why Di Matteo was fired, and backed his former boss Guardiola to become a success in the Premier League.

“Guardiola will be a success wherever he goes. He is widely recognized as one of the best coaches in the world.

“For me he is the best coach in the world and wherever he goes he will be a success, I have no doubt about that. He’ll go where he wants to go and good luck to him.”

“It’s difficult to judge the situation when you are not inside the club but Chelsea are a great club and with big clubs if you lose two games consecutively then these things can happen, the pressure starts to mount,” Messi said.

Chelsea was responsible for Barcelona being outted from the Champions League at the semi-final stage last season as The Blues moved on to triumph in Europe’s premier club competition.

Messi is set to go toe-to-toe with Cristiano Ronaldo in January, when each look to scoop the Ballon d’Or award. The Barcelona superstar is on the brink of a historic fourth trophy, while Ronaldo is looking for his second.

Messi is seeking Germany striker Gerhard Muller’s record of 85 goals in one calendar year, and the Barca star has 80 with six games remaining in 2012.
