Manchester United Update - Champions League Tickets

Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, Manchester United

According to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a magical order active in the UK during the late-19th and early-20th centuries, a talisman is "a magical figure charged with the force which it is intended to represent. In the construction of a talisman, care should be taken to make it, as far as possible, so to represent the universal forces that it should be in exact harmony with those you wish to attract, and the more exact the symbolism, the easier it is to attract the force."

Rooney says all of Europe’s top teams have a player who can “do a bit of magic” to win games.

Barcelona have Lionel Messi and Real Madrid have Cristiano Ronaldo.

Roo stated that United have as good a chance of lifting the European Cup because of Van Persie's magic.

“When you look at all the teams who have won this competition, they all have had those individuals who can do a bit of magic and win the competition,” said the United striker.

“Robin is like that for us. He’s great for the whole team, he’s our talisman.

“We’ve got as good a chance as anyone. I think we’ve got the players. We’re good as a team, but we’ve also got some great individual players who can win games for us.”

Van Persie scored his 11th goal in 14 games - an equaliser against Braga that sent United to the last 16.

Van Persie has scored goals in the wins over Southampton, Liverpool, Cluj, Chelsea, Arsenal and Braga.

Rooney studied Van Persie at Arsenal.

“Last season at Arsenal was his best season in the Premier League goalscoring-wise,” he said.

“He changed his game to playing on the shoulder more and getting in better scoring positions.

“And he’s strong and can hold the ball up. He’s obviously a great finisher. He’s a fantastic player and he’s a great lad to have around the squad.

“He has a calmness about him, he holds the ball up well and brings players into play. We have to try and get players around him.

“If you can get players around him and players feeding off him, it’s great for us all.”

“We’re not happy when we concede goals,” he said. “We need to be more solid as a team and make sure we get the first goal and we can kick on from there, or if we have the lead, try and hold onto it.

“It was great to see Chris Smalling playing again and I don’t think Phil Jones is far off.

“We will keep working hard and hopefully it will come good.

“People have been saying we can play better for the last six or seven years. We know we’re capable of playing better than we are, but results are the most important thing.

“We’re happy with where we are. We’re delighted to have won all four games and finish top of the group. We know we can play better than this, but we’re happy that we’re winning.”

“I was disappointed on Saturday not only to miss, but to miss the target,” he said. “I was fortunate to get another one and thankfully it’s gone in, even though I slipped. So I’m happy about that.”
