Midfielders Jake Livermore, 22, of Tottenham, and Southampton's 24-year-old Adam Lallana, have been added to the England squad for today's World Cup 2014 fixture against Ukraine.

Liverpool's teenager, Raheem Sterling, has also been called into the England squad by manager Roy Hodgson.

However, Chelsea defenders John Terry and Ashley Cole are both unavailable for the match because of ankle injuries. Winger Theo Walcott will not play due to illness.

"I feel we have enough players to take into the game but it was a good opportunity to invite these young players," said Hodgson.

Captain Steven Gerrard welcomed the addition of Sterling, who has started twice for Liverpool in the league this season and made three substitute appearances towards the end of the last campaign.

"I think he deserves this call-up. The impact he's made has been sensational," said Gerrard.

"He's been one of our shining lights. The important thing is he keeps his feet on the ground. I think it won't be long before he's in the set-up for real."
