Andre Villas-Boas Takes Credit For Chelsea Success

AVB was fired as Chelsea manager after nine months in charge at Stamford Bridge.

He was then hired by Tottenham after the club narrowly missed out on next season’s Champions League.

Chelsea spoiled Spurs’ European ambitions by winning the Champions League final and qualifying instead of Spurs, who had finished ahead of Chelsea in the Premier league.

“I think the dimension of the club speaks for itself. It was a massive, massive opportunity for me and I’m extremely privileged to have been given that opportunity, so it’s fantastic to come to a club which such high ambitions towards the future,” said AVB.

Asked about failing at Chelsea, who won the Champions League, AVB stressed the failure was not his fault.

“I cannot assume that failure on my own, I have to disagree with you.

“A squad was being put in place, that was the future and the owner, who took the decision he took, which I have to respect but I would never accept it, decided to terminate the contract. It’s never a one person failure, I could never take it like that.

“You always learn from experience and the Chelsea experience was maybe not so gratifying in terms of success but it was very gratifying professionally for me. I’ve learned a couple of things that I’ve maybe done wrong and I’ve learned that in a club you have to trust the right people at the right time.”
