Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool FC Manager v Roy Hodgson, West Brom

Liverpool 0-1 West Brom

Currently in eighth place in the England Premiership, Liverpool’s European dreams will be postponed to next season.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish had some remarks following the loss.

“It’s not been one of those days, it’s been like that about seven or eight times here,” said Dalglish.

“Even after we won the League Cup we came back and played Arsenal and were brilliant and lost.

“We got to the final last week, beating Everton. The squad came out today and were excellent again but they’ve lost the two games.”

“I think you could go back over the old interviews and it was the same thing. Great credit to the players that they continued to go and they made chance after chance.

“The woodwork again was not our best friend so it’s difficult to come in but they showed great resolve in the way they went about their work and because of that we had a lot of chances, a lot of attempts on goal but just couldn’t get a break.

“There’s not much else we can add to what we’ve said before many times after a game at Anfield. If we had a solution we would tell the players but we wouldn’t tell anyone else.

“There’s no need for us to change things we just need to change a bit of luck.

“It sounds repetitive and it’s not an excuse, we’re not running away from something. It’s not as if there’s something drastically wrong there that we can’t identify.

“It is just a piece of good fortune that they need.”

When asked whether his side should have had a penalty when Maxi Rodriguez went over inside the area, Dalglish commeted.

“I never saw the penalty incident,” Dalglish insisted. “Somebody said there was one in the second half, handball in their box involving Martin Skrtel, but I don’t know.

“I’ve not seen any footage and I’m not trying to be evasisve. We can’t dictate what decisions we get for and against us can we?

“We’ve just got to try and do what we’re doing right and I think [the players] are trying to do most things right.

“I think any football team it doesn’t matter how good, bad or indifferent you are, needs a bit of good fortune with decisions.”
