Euro 2012 Update - Spain Euro Cup Tickets

Spain’s top strikers Roberto Soldado and Fernando Torres both shone by winning games for their clubs as they vie for starting position on the Spain National Team in the EURO 2012 upcoming matches.

Torres had a part in all five goals against Leicester City. El Nino scored two, played the final pass for goals by Salomon Kalou and Raul Meireles and won the corner that led to Gary Cahill heading a winner.

Both Torres and Soldado are top choices to play for their  country as Spain defends their European title in Poland and Ukraine.

Spain boss, Vicente del Bosque, had previously warned that he was in danger of being overlooked four years after scoring Spain’s winning goal in the final with Germany in Austria.

‘I’ll have to see how Torres finishes the season,’ said del Bosque.

‘It has probably been difficult moving from Liverpool to Chelsea, because playing in a team that is not doing well is never easy.’

There was good news and bad at the weekend for Fernando Torres who ended his goal-drought with a brace against Leicester City but then found out his rival for a place in Spain’s Euro 2012 squad scored a hat-trick!

Torres’ barren spell lasted 25 hours, 41 minutes and stretched a staggering 151 days – since a double for Chelsea against Genk in the Champions League.

Fernando Torres ended his long term goal drought with a brace as as the Chelsea FC moved into the FA Cup semi-finals. Last season, Torres made a £50million move from Liverpool-Anfield.

‘I needed those goals, I’d been working so hard. I found the net so it’s a good day for me, I feel happy.

‘I think maybe this season I am playing at a very good level but I was not scoring goals in this period and the job of the striker is to score goals.

‘So if you don’t do it then the people think you are playing badly but for me the main thing is the support of the people.

‘They have all been with me. The team-mates, the staff. I feel the confidence of the manager now and obviously it’s a good time for me and for Chelsea.’

Fernando Torres Scores Winning Goal in Euro 2008

“He’s a tremendous player, a fantastic guy too. A team player who we value very much. He plays hard and tries hard; he had a great game on Tuesday and the only thing missing was a goal, but I don’t really care about that as long as the team win,” said Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo.

Fernando José Torres Sanz – nicknamed El Nino, was born 20 March 1984, is a Spanish footballer who plays for Chelsea FC and the Spain national team as a striker. Torres became the fastest player in Liverpool history to score 50 league goals. He left Liverpool in January 2011 to join Chelsea for a record British transfer fee of £50 million, making him the most expensive Spanish player in history.

Torres scored twice at UEFA Euro 2008, including the winning goal for Spain in their 1–0 win over Germany in the Final.

Torres made his 60th appearance for Spain in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification victory over Turkey on 28 March 2009, becoming the youngest player to reach this milestone. He was named in Spain’s team for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in June. He scored his second hat-trick for Spain after 17 minutes into a Confederations Cup game against New Zealand on 14 June, thus recording the fastest hat-trick by a player for Spain.  He played for Spain as they were defeated 2–0 by the United States in the semi-final, as well as the third-place play-off, which Spain won 3–2 against South Africa after extra time.
