Liverpool Beats Man City 1-0 In Carling Cup Semifinal

“There is no way this game is over,” said Liverpool Captain, Steven Gerrard, after scoring the winning goal against Man City. “The job is half done.”

Gerrard scored the only goal last night with a first-half penalty kick.

Liverpool FC tied Arsenal’s record of 14 semifinal appearances in English soccer’s second-tier club competition – they host the return match Jan. 25.

Man City did not loose a single home match in 2011 – but have now lost two in a row in 2012.

Deprived of key players, City suffered their fourth defeat in eight games. It was the first time they have not scored at home in 14 months.

After Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United and sending off of Kompany – and City missed their captain, Vincent Kompany, as well as David Silva and Yaya Touré.

Mancini maintains that Kompany’s red card is the worst he has seen in 30 years in football.

Liverpool would have scored more goals if it were not for Joe Hart’s energenic goalkeeping. Liverpool’s Pepe Reina’s goalkeeping was excellent as well.

Mario Balotelli lasted only 39 minutes before being withdrawn.

After the clash, Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool captain whose first-half penalty secured a 1-0 first-leg lead for Kenny Dalglish’s team, accused the City manager of double standards, for demanding a red card for Johnson after having said that Wayne Rooney did the same thing before Vincent Kompany was sent off in the FA Cup defeat by Manchester United on Sunday.
