Manchester City To Appeal Kopany Red Card

Manchester City boss, Roberto Mancini confirmed that an appeal has been lodged with the Football Association in an attempt to overturn referee Chris Foy's decision to give Vincent Kopany a straight red card and send off during the beginning minutes of Sunday's Manchester Derby.

"City have today lodged an appeal with the Football Association relating to the red card issued to Vincent Kompany during Sunday's FA Cup tie with Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium," read a statement released on the club's official website.

"The FA have confirmed that a hearing will be held ahead of Wednesday evening's Carling Cup semi-final first leg at home to Liverpool."

Reportedly City boss Roberto Mancini blames Wayne Rooney for influencing referee Foy’s decision to give Kopany a red.

Mancini said,“Yes, but I don’t want to talk about the referee.

“It was not a red card,” Mancini said. “Rooney told him his decision. He was near the referee.”

“We will do an appeal and I’m sure that we will win an appeal. You never know, but can you explain to me for which reason this was a red card?”
The Red Card called after an attempted two-footed challenge on Nani left City only 10 men for 79 minutes of the most exciting Manchester Derby clash ever.
Man United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson said: “It was always a sending-off because Nani is very lucky there wasn’t any contact. A two-footed tackle off the ground is a red card. The intent was there. Nani was very lucky. It could have been a bad one. “I have seen Kompany do that before, but he has maybe got away with it. We were lucky because if he had made contact, Nani would have had a real problem.”

United was ahead 3-0 at half-time through two Rooney goals and one from Danny Welbeck,

In the second half, strikes from Aleksandar Kolarov and Sergio Agüero put United’s victory at rish in an exciting finish.

After the match, Mancini remarked, “I think that this is important for us for the league. I think now we can win the league.

“United is the top squad in England and if we can play like we did against them with 10 players with that same attitude and same strength in every game we will [win the league].

“I am disappointed for the game, but I think today we took two steps forward because we have shown character.

“When United played with 10 men they lost 6-1 and played for 40 minutes with 10 players. We played for 80 minutes with 10 and didn’t concede any chances in the second half.”

Kompany tweeted after the game, “Every single person involved with Man City FC were incredible today. Definitely the moral winners of this game.”
