FA Cup: Liverpool FC Whallops Oldham 5–1

Andy Carroll, Liverpool FC

Liverpool FC 5 – 1 Oldham

Liverpool's £35 million man, striker Andy Carroll, celebrated scoring his team's fourth goal during the FA Cup 3rd Round match between Liverpool and Oldham Athletic at Anfield on January 6, 2012 in Liverpool, England.

With Suis Suarez on the bench, Liverpool FC defeated Oldham 5-1 as Kenny Dalglish’s team ended a terrible week by securing their place in the fourth round FA Cup competition.

Before kick-off Liverpool paid a moving tribute to their former defender Gary Ablett, who died on New Year’s Day after a long illness at 46.

Anfield fans were impatient at Liverpool’s lethargic opening.

Simpson opened the scoring for Oldham and raced the length of the pitch in celebration – but Liverpool’s response arrived before Oldham’s wild celebrations had ceased.

Jonjo Shelvey shot left-footed at Oldham goalkeeper, Alex Cisak. The ball struck Bellamy on the chest and deflected into the unguarded side of Oldham’s goal for the equalizer.

Oldham gifted Liverpool with a soft second goal at half-time from Gerrard  putting Liverpool in front.

Shelvey added a third to put The Reds in control, followed by goals from Carroll and Downing.

The match put the spotlight on strikers Craig Bellamy and Andy Carroll at the impressive finish.
