Going into New Year's Day Manchester City is in 1st in the Premier League table with 46 points, Manchester United is in 2nd with 45 points. The Spurs are in thirs, Arsenal is in 4th and Chelsea FC is in 5th.

Manchester United 3-2 Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn pulled off the biggest surprise of the 2011 Premier League season by defeating Man United 3-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday on Alex Ferguson's 70th birthday. United had erased a 2-0 deficit through two second-half goals by Dimitar Berbatov, before Grant Hanley took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper David de Gea - heading in a winner from a corner in the 80th minute.

Arsenal 1-0 QPR

Arsenal's superstar Robin van Persie's 35th Barclays Premier League goal of 2011 sealed a win for Arsenal FC moving the Gunners above Chelsea and into the Premiership top four. Van Persie fell just one short of Alan Shearer's record for Barclays Premier League goals in a calendar year.

Swansea 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Swansea denied Tottenham Hotspur three points in a draw. Rafael van der Vaart gave the visitors the lead in the 44th minute. Then Swansea equalised six minutes from time when Spurs goalkeeper Brad Friedel allowed Scott Sinclair to capitalise on an error.

Chelsea 1-3 Aston Villa

Darren Bent and Stilyan Petrov both scored late to earn Aston Villa a surprising victory at Stamford Bridge. The Blues took the lead through a Didier Drogba penalty after Drogba had been fouled by Richard Dunne. Villa levelled five minutes later through Stephen Ireland before Petrov and Bent sealed the win for boss Alex McLeish's side in the final 10 minutes.

Bolton 1-1 Wolves

Steven Fletcher earned Wolves a draw at Bolton that sent the Trotters to the bottom of the Barclays Premier League table after Sam Ricketts had put Bolton opened the scoring  in the opening half.

Norwich 1-1 Fulham

An injury-time goal from Norwich substitute Simeon Jackson resulted in a draw with Fulham. Orlando Sa opened the scoring for Fulham after just seven minutes when he scored from outside the box. Fulham's Jackson headed a late goal for the tie.

Stoke 2-2 Wigan

A late penalty from Ben Watson earned Wigan a vital point against Stoke avoiding relegation status. Victor Moses put the visitors in front beforeJonathan Walters equalised from the penalty spot in the 77th minute. Cameron Jerome put the hosts in front but substitute Watson converted the 87th-minute penalty.
