Málaga vs Barcelona

With Lionel Messi scoring two goals, Barca delivered a Super Cup 3-2 win over Real Madrid, making it a record tenth cup for Barca.

On La Liga Match Day 1, Barcelona FC will travel to Andalucia where they will face a strong Málaga team that may prove dangerous this season.  Malaga made some key signings during the summer transfer window with young Argentine Buonanotte, Dutch defender Mathijsen, former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker Van Nistelrooy, left back Monreal from Osasuna, French midfielder Toulalan, defender Sergio Sánchez and wingers Santi Cazorla and Joaquín.

Barcelona FC finally signed former youth teamer Cesc Fabregas three days before the Spanish Super Cup.  Barca also signed Alexis Sánchez during the summer window.

Lionel Messi, considered by many to the world’s greatest footballer, of Argentina and Barcelona FC, received the men’s player of the year award from his club coach Pep Guardiola during the FIFA Ballon d’or Gala at the Zurich Kongresshaus.

In the last ten home matches against Barcelona, Malaga have only won once in 2003.

Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao

After losing the Super Cup to Barcelona on Wednesday, Real Madrid will kick their season off at home on Sunday against their hated rivals, Basque side Athletic Bilbao.

Los leones have a new coach, Capparós and have purchased promising midfielder Ander Herrera from Zaragoza.

Their opponents have added Callejón, Şahin, Coentrão, Varane and Altintop.

Both teams have only played in the first division and have met each other 80 times at the Bernabéu with Real Madrid winning 55, drawing 15 and losing 13.  Bilbao’s last win in Madrid against los blancos came in February 2005.
