Aston Villa Update

New Aston Villa Manager, Alex McLeish

Alex McLeish Moves Back to Premier League – Aston Villa Agree to £3m Compensation Deal with Birmingham City

Former Birmingham boss, Alex McLeish, walked out on relegated Carling Cup champs, Birmingham City, and was made Aston Villa manager soon after in a move which angered both sets of fans.

Birmingham fams have suffered over the summer since ex-manager McLeish joined forces with city rivals Aston Villa – and Carson Yeung the president of Birmingham FC is facing allegations of money laundering. Yeung is currently in Hong Kong.

Barry Ferguson is the latest in a long line of players leaving the relegated club.

The Blues initially demanded £5.4m in compensation for McLeish, who had two years remaining on his St Andrew’s contract.

Reportedly Villa paid less than half of the figure Birmingham had originally sought to land McLeish.

“Birmingham City and Aston Villa can confirm that agreement has been reached between the parties ending the legal disputes surrounding Alex McLeish’s departure,” reported a combined statement from both clubs.

“Aston Villa has agreed to pay Birmingham City an undisclosed figure following negotiations whereby the parties have agreed to bring to an end all disputes including the further recruitment of Peter Grant and Dr Ian McGuinness by Aston Villa.”
