Chelsea's Boss, Andre Villas-Boas, Looking For Striker

Andre Villas-Boas

With new boss Andre Villas-Boas taking charge at Chelsea, it is expected he will begin his summer spending by launching a bid for a striker to play with Fernando Torres next season.

Didier Drogba suffered a loss of form last season and is no longer guaranteed a starting place in the Chelsea team. Torres did not fair much better, he is expected to regain his form in the new season as he adapts to life at Chelsea.

If the new coach does decide to spend big on a striker, it will almost certainly end Drogba’s spell at the club with the Ivorian unwilling to play a bit-part role.

'This is not a one-man show, this is about creating empathy, ambition and motivation in everybody. Maybe I should be called the Group One as I want to group people together and be successful.'

The 33-year-old also side-stepped questions about how he may look to take on established Premier League managers such as Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who is 36 years older.

'It's not just a question of me taking on Sir Alex, it's a top club like Chelsea challenging for the title,' he said.

'We need to be up there from the beginning and it is not one man against the other, it's about trying to build something that can make us powerful, and help us threaten for the title as we have in the past.'

Villas-Boas also spoke of how tough a decision it was for him to leave Porto after securing four trophies in his first season in charge, and revealed that they had been prepared to match Chelsea's financial offer in an effort to keep him.

He added: 'It was a difficult separation and there are a lot of Portuguese press in this room who know the extent of my move and the impact it had.

'It was felt very hard in Portugal but my commitment to them was 100 per cent. Porto is my club and always will be, I felt good there and we had a successful year.

'It was difficult but everybody in this room will have felt the need for a new challenge and I felt it. We had a crazy year of success but I felt that I could challenge myself (more at Chelsea).

'It was a lucrative move and I can assure you Porto were able to beat their offer. They were to make an offer for me to stay but I took the (Chelsea) offer, against the will of my family.'

Neymar

The young Brazilian is one of the most sought-after strikers in the world following his performances at club and international level. He is now established as a starter in the Brazil national team and has a buy out clause of £40 million in his contract. His club Santos are under no pressure to sell however due to the economic boom in Brazil which has placed the club in a strong position. He is also being chased by Barcelona and Real Madrid and has scored 27 league goals in 64 games for Santos, as well as winning the Libertadores this month.

Romelu Lukaku

The young Belgian has drawn comparisons with Didier Drogba due to his physical resemblance to the striker. He began scoring goals for Anderlecht aged just 16 and scored his first two international goals against Russia earlier this year. He has scored 31 league goals in 71 games for his club and also netted 131 goals in 93 games at youth level. He would cost in the region of £30 million and only time will tell whether he can continue his progression at one of Europe’s top clubs, with Real Madrid also interested.

Falcao

The Porto striker enjoys a good relationship with Villas-Boas having played under him last season where he struck a remarkable 39 goals in 42 games. He is expected to be available for a figure of £26 million with Real Madrid and Inter Milan also monitoring the situation. He has a wonderful left foot but is capable of playing on either side as well as through the middle and is also a major force in the air.
