Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland

Although Arsenal dropped two points when instead they suffered a surprising tie against Sunderland -the Gunners are still a major threat in the trophy race with Manchester United who dropped 6 points in 6 days.

The point gained by Arsenal in the tie closes the gap to just three pints as Man Utd were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool due to a Dirk Kuyt hat-trick.

Next Arsenal play FC Barcelona, then the Gunners play in the much anticipated FA Cup quarter final on Saturday evening.

Arsenal don't play in the league again for two weeks when they travel to play against struggling West Brom.

Then there is a two week international break.

Arsenal currently has many of their top players out on the injury list including crucial players Cesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott and Alex Song. Hopefully they will be back after the international break.

Bendtner featured as the centre forward after he scored a FA Cup hat-trick against Leyton Orient on Wednesday night.

Samir Nasri and Jack Wilshere did all they could alongside Diaby and Denilson.

When passion and high energy were needed, Arsenal looked tired. At half time neither team had scored a goal, and Arsenal came out after the half needing to pick up the pace in the second 45 minutes.

Denilson was replaced with Marouane Chamakh in the 62nd minute.

Arsenal came even close to scoring when a Wilshere cross was headed onto the bar by Chamakh with the keeper beaten.

With ten minutes left Nasri played a perfect ball behind the Sunderland defence for Arshavin to run through on goal. He was held by Titus Bramble, but he continued into the box, and just as he shot Bramble pushed him which caused the shot to go wide.

It was an obvious penalty, but the officials did not call it.

Bendtner played a ball behind the Sunderland defence for Arshavin to run onto, and he was flagged offside as he made his way past the keeper and put the ball into an empty net. The replays showed that Arshavin was clearly onside, and again the officials made a game changing mistake against Arsenal.

After the game Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he was too disgusted to comment about the two incidents involving Arshavin.
