Europa League Update: Man City v Aris Salonika

Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko Celebrate

Europa League: Manchester City v Aris Salonika - Thursday Feb 24, 2011 @ City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester UK

Manchester City’s expensively-assembled £50m strikeforce of Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko are fit to play in their upcoming match against Aris.

Manchester City face Aris Salonika in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie. Aris has a 24-match unbeaten run in European competition stretching back over 40 years at their Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium.

Leading scorer Carlos Tevez and new Man City signing, Edin Dzeko will also start. The 6ft 4in Bosnian international Dzeko is the hottest striker in Europe according to Man City manager Roberto Mancini. The former Wolfsburg striker was signed by the Premier League club for a staggering £27.5m and has agreed upon a four and a half year deal.

An amazing bicycle goal from Wayne Rooney gave Manchester United a victory against Man City at the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford on Saturday after David Silva had cancelled out Nani's opener for the home side.

Manchester City's manager Roberto Mancini plans on a victory against Aris after their weekend derby defeat dispite Aris's unbeaten record at home.

"There is always a first time.''

"Do I think we are still mentally strong? I do not think that will be a problem,'' said the Italian.

"We played very well against United and the defeat was hard to take. But now we have another important game to focus on.

"We have three days to prepare for this game and we know it will be very difficult. Aris are a good team with good players and have already beaten Atletico Madrid.

"But this is an important time for us and we need to start a winning run. If we play like we did against United we can win a lot of games.''

Aris new coach Ioannis took over following former manager Hector Cuper's resignation last month.

"Tomorrow we face the strongest team of the competition this year.

"City and St Etienne are the best teams to have come to Thessaloniki.

"It is one of the richest teams with a fantastic squad and we must give 120% to get a positive result, which we owe to our fans.

"Moreover, we must maintain our history and not lose our unbeaten record on our ground.

"It is a challenge for our players to produce their best and I think they will. If you are afraid, you cannot face anyone. The value of Manchester City is great, but we will not win if we play in fear.''
