The Wirral-born Referee was appointed to the Select Group list in 2000 and took charge of 2008 FA Cup Final between Cardiff City and Portsmouth, he has also twice refereed the Championship Play-Off final, taking charge in 2006 and 2009.

He will be assisted on the day by Ron Ganfield and Mike Mullarkey while Kevin Friend has been handed the role of Fourth Official.

In 2006, Arsenal suffered a Carling Cup semi-final dismissal. That event has helped to keep Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger focused on inspiring his team in the run up to the 2011 Carling Cup – and the Gunners have reached the Final.

Along their way to the Carling Cup Final, Arsenal defeated Ipswich in the semi-final. The Tractor Boys and the Gunners headed into the second leg of their semi on the back of League victories. Jewell’s Tractor Boys having come from behind to beat Doncaster Rovers 3-2 and Wenger”s Gunners impressive 3-0 win against Wigan Athletic!

Looking ahead, Wenger commented, “We need to produce a very good game and that is what I am focused on,” he said. “But this team has a great spirit, a great quality, and I want them to go as far as they can.”
