Ryan Babel Tweets Controversy

Ryan Babel

Liverpool forward, Ryan Babel, has been fined £10,000 and warned about his future conduct by the Football Association after admitting a charge of improper conduct relating to comments and images posted on Twitter concerning referee Howard Webb.

Babel Tweeted, "And they call him one of the best referees? That's a joke. SMH [shaking my head]."

As a result of his tweet, Babel has accepted an improper conduct charge from the FA, and Dalglish says Babel could now be sanctioned by Liverpool as well.

"Ryan has to be responsible. If you are going to be on Twitter you have to be responsible," said Dalglish.

"You know the repercussions if you say or do something which is contentious.

"He never drew it up, he just forwarded it on.

"I think it was a bit tongue-in-cheek, it wasn't his creation and he has apologised unreservedly to the referee.

"The club will take some action I would have thought and then that should be it for me."

"Where's our sense of humour gone in our game? He's apologised, let's move on. I would think that Howard Webb is a big enough man, a big enough person and good enough referee to take it. To my mind, and to most footballers' minds, it is the same sort of stuff that flies about every weekend via mobile phones, but they are obviously taking a stance on it. I thought a warning would have been sufficient."

"My apology if they take my posted picture seriously. This is just an emotional reaction after losing an important game. Sorry Howard Webb."
