ESPN PFA AWARD SHORTLIST – DECEMBER

Newcastle striker Andy Carroll and Tottenham winger Gareth Bale along with Samir Nasri, Yaya Toure and Danny Welbeck head the five-man shortlist for the ESPN PFA Fans Player of the Month award for December.

Carroll has added two more goals to his top-flight tally in December - scoring in Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the end of November, and a trademark header in their defeat of Manchester City. He has a total of 11 league goals so far this season.

Also at the top is Samir Nasri, the winner of November’s award, who has been the Premier League’s standout performer in 2010-11. so far – notable was his match-winning brace against Fulham, with two outstanding individual strikes.

Gareth Bale – the Welsh winger - is a key winner in Harry Redknapp’s Spurs side. He scored an important goal against Newcastle in December.

Danny Welbeck scored a crucial goal in December with a winner against Bolton. Walbeck failed to fulfil Sir Alex Ferguson’s prediction that he would make England’s World Cup squad.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure contributed a vital assist for Carlos Tevez’s winner against Bolton, then scored himself in City’s 3-1 win over West Brom. The 27-year-old, who joined City in a £24 million deal from Barcelona last summer, signed a five-year-deal worth £55.6m. Toure will be picks up a basic wage of £185,000 a week.
