Dawson Worried About CL Dreams After Loss to Young Boys

Tottenham Hotspur's Michael Dawson felt badly about his teams 3-2 defeat to Young Boys in the Champions League qualifier on Tuesday. The second-leg will take place in London on Wednesday August 25.

The London based Spurs gave up three goals to the Swiss side in the first 30 minutes of the match by Senad Lulic, Henri Bienvenu and Xavier Hochstrasser.

Dawson said Tottenham had to rally at half-time in a bid to keep their Champions League dreams alive.

"The first half-hour wasn't good enough. Simple as that. To be 3-0 down away from home is not good enough, but we got in at half-time, sorted things out and came out and stuck together," Dawson told Sky Sports after the game.

"Three-one at half-time, three-two we go away with, we've got to to be happy with that after the first half-an-hour."

Asked if the artificial pitch was a problem for the Spurs players on the night, Dawson said: "No we can't make excuses, simple as that. We were slow out of the blocks. We trained on it last night, the pitch wasn't a problem. When you concede a goal away from home so early it is hard."

Spurs' display after the break was a marked improvement from the first half, with Roman Pavlyuchenko adding a second for the London side. Dawson attributes the improvement to manager Harry Redknapp and his half-time rollicking to the players.

"Redknapp wasn't happy. He said the first half performance wasn't good enough. But the lads stuck together, we came out and now we go home, three-two back to White Hart Lane."
