Nani, Manchester United

Manchester United 4-4 Newcastle

Man Utd has only themselves to blame for letting Newcastle catch up from being two points back last weekend. United with go into Monday's clash with Manchester City with the pressure on, knowing that they must win the match and one more to secure the Premiership top spot.

'There is anger from the players,' said Nani.

'The concentration was not the best in the last few minutes - that's why they were able to create chances and score goals.

'We had a lot of possession and played some fantastic football in attack. But we conceded too many goals and we're not happy about that.'

'Of course,' said Nani, when asked whether United can still secure a 20th league title.

'We have to keep believing in our qualities because we still have a great opportunity to win the title.

'It's a huge game at City - there will be a fantastic atmosphere there.

'It will be a difficult game, but if you want to win the league you cannot think about the atmosphere or the opponents, we must just think about the way we play and try to win the game.'

Europa League 2012 – Manchester City 4-0 Porto

Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini believes 23 year-old Sergio Aguero will improve.

“Sergio is another top striker, but he’s young and needs to improve,’’ said Mancini.

“He’s a top striker, he has scored a lot of goals, he was important in this game and has been important during the season.”

Mancini also believes that winning the Europa League silverware is on a level with winning the English Premier League title. City has joined the Europa League following their early de-seating from the Champion’s League - Europe’s top table.

Sergio Aguero is one of the superstars of Manchester City’s stellar season. Aguero came through again with a goal in City’s recent Europa League win over holders, Porto. City sealed an impressive 4-0 win over Porto to reach the last 16 of the Europa League.

With a low shot, the Argentine scored City’s first-leg winner and gave them the lead against Porto after just 19 seconds.

He then provided Edin Dzeko who scored a goal which Porto’s Rolando was sent off for protesting against.

With the tie won, City finished off their opponents with goals from David Silva and substitute David Pizarro.

Carlos Tevez will need to impress to reclaim his place in Mancini’s starting XI – after Tevez’s apology “to everyone I have let down” during his five-month feud with City boss, Roberto Mancini.

MAN UTD TIED ON TOP OF ENGLISH PREMIERSHIP

Manchester United lost the FA Cup Fourth Round match to Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield on January 28, 2012 in Liverpool, England.

Then Man United defeated Stoke 2-0 and Man City lost at Everton, bringing United level on points at the top of the English Premiership with City.

“It’s been a good night,”  said Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson.

“But it’s still only the last day in January. I always see March as the important month and we’ve got City away in April.”

Ferguson added that he thought his depleted team had been “terrific” in defeating Stoke. “We kept our composure and were patient,” he said.

“OK, we won with two penalties, but the manner in which we played our football was the main thing.”

Ferguson remarked he had suffered a “right nightmare” with goalkeepers Anders Lindegaard and David De Gea both being injured in the same training session which led to a league debut for 21-year-old Ben Amos.

“We are hopeful Wayne Rooney and Nani and Ashley Young might be back for Sunday,” he said.

Ferguson has signed 19-year-old defender Frederic Veseli who was at Old Trafford having completed his switch from City.

“United have a long history of younger players coming through and hopefully I can follow and do the same,” he said.

Manchester United clash with rivals FC Chelsea this weekend.

Manchester Derby: Manchester United v Manchester City - Tickets

2011 Manchester Derby: Man Utd 1-6 Man City

In front of a sold-out stadium of fans from around the workd, Manchester City earned a shocking 6-1 defeat of their arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, October 23rd, 2011.

After a somewhat slow start, Man City took the lead after 22 minutes with a goal from 21-year old Italian Mario Balotelli. The midfielder marked the goal with humor by lifting his outer shirt to reveal another blue shirt saying, “Why Always Me?”

City was ahead 1-0 at half-time.

Mario Balotelli, Manchester City

Star of the match, Balotelli struck twice. Balotelli also won the free-kick which led to a red card for United defender Jonny Evans leaving United with only ten men. Two goals came from late sub Edin Dzeko.  And Sergio Aguero and David Silva each added to the tally.

City boss, Roberto Mancini took off Balotelli with 20 minutes remaining and brought in Edin Dzeko.

City upped their tempo and struck three times after the 88th minute cementing their victory that lifted them five points ahead of United at the top of the Premier League table.

Darren Fletcher scored United’s only goal 10 minutes from time.

City delivered United’s first home defeat since April 2010 – and ended United’s run of 19 consecutive home league wins.

Sir Alex Ferguson said later that the stunning defeat to Manchester City was shocking to him.

United played the majority of the second half with ten men after the dismissal of Jonny Evans.

‘It was out worst ever day. It’s the worst result in my history, ever. Even as a player I don’t think I ever lost 6-1’.

‘I thought with the experience we’ve got – Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra – they would defend more but we just kept attacking. Sometimes there has to be common sense about it’.

Roberto Mancini, City manager, also commented after the match.

“This is only one game. I still think United are one yard above us, still,” said Mancini. “I think we can only change this after we win the title in the end.

“After, maybe it will be different, but now United are better than us.”

The 161st derby, a Premier League fixture, took place on 23 October 2011 at Old Trafford. City’s victory equalized the biggest win in the derby’s history, which City also won at Old Trafford in 1926.

Manchester United won the 2010-11 Premier League Championship and Manchester City earned the 2010-11 FA Cup Trophy.

Both clubs qualified for the 2011–12 UEFA Champions League.

The Manchester Derby is a historic clash between Manchester City and Manchester United. The local derby centres on the City of Manchester and Greater Manchester. Only four miles separate the clubs with City based in east Manchester at the City of Manchester Stadium and United south west of Manchester at Old Trafford Stadium in Trafford.

To date, Manchester United has recorded the most Derby wins - 67, and Ryan Giggs has played in the most Derbies – 34.

As of 23 October 2011, there have been 161 competitive meetings between the teams. United have won 67 and City 44, the remaining 50 games finishing as draws.

The last meeting, the 161st derby, was a Premier League fixture on 23 October 2011 at Old Trafford. City won 6-1, equalling the biggest win in the derby’s history, which City also won 6-1 at Old Trafford in 1926.

Wayne Rooney Scores Supergoal in Manchester Derby, February 2011

Man United won the previous Manchester Derby with a spectacular goal from Wayne Rooney.

Rooney’s 78th minute winner – a powerful acrobatic effort that flashed past Joe Hart on its way home - was Rooney’s best ever goal in his football career.

“As soon as I hit it, I knew it was in, said Rooney. “It’s definitely the best goal I’ve scored.”

Sergio Aguero Injured

Sergio Aguero, Manchester City

Manchester City is tied for first place at the top of the Premiership in part due to the skillful play and goal-scoring of Sergio Aguero.
Agüero sustained an injury playing for Manchester City against Blackburn Rovers.

Agüero will miss Manchester City's upcoming clash with Aston Villa on Saturday.

He did not play for Argentina against Venezuela due to the the adductor strain he picked up during City's 4-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.

Mario Balotelli, who has been ruled out of Italy's two Euro 2012 qualifiers with a back injury and will not play this weekend against Villa.

City will Villa with only one formidable striker, Edin Dzeko, on their squad.

Carlos Tevez's two-week club suspension expires on Thursday, however Roberto Mancini stated that the forward is no longer part of his first-team plans.

City's coach David Platt says City will do well even without Balotelli, Agüero and Tevez.

"We have plenty of ways of playing. Yaya Touré, David Silva and Samir Nasri - three who can all work off the striker," he stated.

"Let's just concentrate on what we have available. We know we have a squad of players which means we can put a team out against anyone and make a good game of it."

Wayne Rooney and Nani Celebrate With Manchester United Team

Community Shield: Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United

FA Cup winners Manchester City lost to Manchester United in the recent Community Shield – Man City 2-3 Man Utd – at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, August 7th.

Manhester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson has never let slip a two-goal lead in his managerial career.

This match was also a Manchester Derby between the two Manchester superclubs. Trailing 2-0 at the break, United transformed and revitalized after a pep talk from Fergie.

United’s second half goals were scored by Chris Smalling (21) and a brace from Nani (24).

New goalkeeper, David De Gea suffered an ackward debut similar to his predecessors, Peter Schmeichel and Jaap Stam. Edwin van der Sar is a hard act to follow, however De Gea need more time to adjust to England football.

“This shows who the best team is,” exclaimed Man Utd striker, Wayne Rooney.

“All game we dominated. We never know when a game is finished. We took them apart. The scoreline is deserved. We’re champions and we’re the team to beat. We want to prove that.

“Of course [it is sweeter because it was a derby]. And obviously they are wanting to try and fight us for that title. But I think there was only one team that was going to win. We showed our character to come back.”

“Have to say, I think today was a footballing lesson. A great win for the champions.”

Sir Alex Ferguson's side had an average age of 22 after he withdrew Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Michael Carrick at the half.

“For us, I think it just confirms what I’ve thought,” said Fergie.

“People were saying that we’re not the best United squad, but you’ve got to remember we have a lot of young players, and they will improve.

“These boys are good players and the addition of Jones and De Gea gives us a good future. We are confident with this group of players.”

Move to Real Madrid Has Opened Up For Carlos Tevez

Carlos Tevez

Carlos Tevez has expressed that he wants to leave Manchester City despite winning the FA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League last season.

Tevez said last week that he wants to live and work closer to his two children and their mother, who live in Argentina. He has been linked with moves to Italy and Spain, and Argentina.

"I need to be closer to them and to spend more time with them," said Tevez in a statement last week. "Living without my children in Manchester has been incredibly challenging for me. Everything I do, I do for my daughters."

Tevez’s agent Kia Joorabchian stated, ‘His dream and mine is to see him back with Corinthians. He said he wants to return because he wants to win the Copa Libertadores’.

Man City received and rejected a Corinthians £35m offer for the Argentina international - paving the way for an offer to Real Madrid.

The Brazilian club's president Andres Sanchez has told City that they will not submit a second offer closer to the club's £50m asking price for the superstar striker.

"If City want £50m then he will stay in England," Sanchez said. "Corinthians are not going to improve the offer. If we haven't closed the deal by Sunday, it won't happen this year.

"It would have to be a loan, we cannot buy him. That [£50m] is an absurd figure, unviable for the Brazilian football market."

Madrid may get the 27-year-old, since Tevez's agent Kia Joorabchian suggests that a move to Spain would be preferable to Tevez and his family over remaining in England.

"For Carlos, the main motivation for leaving City is not to go to another club in the Premier League, but to move to a city where his family can adapt," he said.

"A move to Spain might solve that problem. It's about the language and the culture. In Spain, they speak the same language. You can see a lot of Argentinian and Brazilian players live in Spain and they have adapted very easily."

Real Madrid may now offer Tevez the chance to end his career with Manchester City, and manager, Jose Mourinho, has said he would like to sign another forward this summer.

"We decided to improve and balance the squad without ever losing the dimension of creating a team for the future," he reported.

"We have signed players whom we felt were important to complete a squad that was already very strong.

"In my opinion, and in that of everyone, we are missing one more man, one more attacker."

Santos striker Neymar revealed that he wouldn't move to Real Madrid until January.

Real seem willing to discuss a move for Tevez.

Tevez contract at City is reportedly more than £200,000 a week and runs until June 2014. Tevez is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world,

Real Madrid are unlikely to offer City the desired amount of £50m plus a high salary for Tevez. But they may offload an unwanted player as part of the deal plus £25m to Manchester in exchange to secure Tevez for their squad.

Tevez has scored 53 goals in 86 games for Man City.
