Poland v Greece Tickets EURO 2012 8 Jun 2012 18:00 National Stadium Warsaw Warsaw, Poland
.
Poland automatically qualified for the tournament as co-host, but hasn’t played a competitive match since 2010 World Cup qualifying. Poland’s debut at the European Championship four years ago ended in disappointment with zero wins in three games. Since then Poland hired a new coach, revamped much of the squad and featured players who have found success in one of Europe’s toughest leagues.
.
As co-host of Euro 2012, Poland is hoping the changes make a difference when they take on Russia, Greece and the Czech Republic in Group A.
.
”It is our goal to advance from the group and I am convinced we can do it,” Poland coach Franciszek Smuda said. ”But this is a group that you can be wrong about. Russia is an excellent team. I think they are the favorites to advance from our group. Greece also is very good.”

”Last year showed that we can play with strong opponents,” said Smuda.

”OK, so we didn’t win, but we were good to watch. Against Germany, France, and Portugal we fought as equals despite the fact that we don’t have a team that has played with that lineup at a tournament and hasn’t played against those sorts of opponents.

”That’s why I’m optimistic and why Poles are optimistic.”

”Taking over this post, I thought that you could easily find 11 players, and good players at that. But it turns out that it’s actually very hard to find 11 good players,” he said. ”We aren’t in a situation like the Germans are right now, where we could put together three national teams from our roster. We can only put together one, and we have to pray to God that we don’t have any injuries.”

What Smuda can draw on are three top-class players – the Borussia Dortmund trio of Robert Lewandowski, Jakub Blaszczykowski and Lukasz Piszczek, as well as Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Poland’s attack will be centered on the 23-year-old Lewandowski, who is coming off a stellar campaign for Dortmund. Lewandowski scored 22 goals in 34 matches, finishing the 2011-12 campaign third best in the league.

”We are playing at home and we will do our best to advance from the group and it will be a great success for these boys,”

King's Cup Trophy Destroyed - Football Cups Tickets

King's Cup Trophy

Reportedly, Spain’s most treasured football trophy, the King’s Cup, slipped from the hands of Sergio Ramos, fell under the team bus and was crushed into pieces.

Real Madrid defender Ramos held the 15-kilo (33-pound) trophy above his head in an open-top bus as the triumphant team were about to enter Madrid’s central Cibeles Square, packed with fans partying throughout the night.

But he lost his grip and the Cup, which Real Madrid got their hands on just hours earlier for the first time since 1993 after a 1-0 victory over Barcelona, fell in front of the bus.

The team bus then ran over the silver trophy before stopping.

Police rushed to retrieve the Cup and gave it to the bus driver but it was not displayed to the public again.

Emergency services workers picked up at least 10 pieces of the trophy, news radio Cadena Ser reported. “It fell, it fell, it’s fine, it’s fine,” said Ramos.

Chelsea 3-0 West Ham - Fernando Torres Scores 1st Chelsea Goal

Fernando Torres Celebrates 1st Chelsea Goal

Chelsea 3-0 West Ham

Stamford Bridge April 23, 2011

Fernando Torres smiled after scoring his first goal for Chelsea in Saturday's 3-0 victory over West Ham in his 14th outing after a £50m January move from Liverpool, the Spain striker ended a 903-minute drought.

"It was not the beginning I was expecting when I signed, but it's never easy when you arrive in January at a massive team like this," said Torres.

"There's less pressure for me now, now I can enjoy it."

The 27-year-old started on the substitutes' bench for the fifth successive Premier League match before coming on for Didier Drogba in the 76th minute.

Chelsea were leading 1-0.

Torres kicked a great shot past West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green.

"I kept working and it's thanks to all my team-mates that I scored," he added. "Thanks to all my team-mates, they were looking for me in every game.

"It wasn't so difficult for me but for the fans - I had more anxiety for them than for me, I wanted to show them I could score and hopefully this is the first of many goals.

"Now we can try and finish the season as we all want."

Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti was thrilled for Torres and his side, who are now three points clear of Arsenal in third and remain six points behind leaders Manchester United following their 1-0 victory over Everton.

"What a perfect day," stated Ancelotti. "Everyone has been waiting for Fernando to score and finally he did it. From today, a new life.

"He needed a goal - he worked hard and maintained confidence and composure. From today, he will have fantastic future at this club.

"The big problem was that he came to a new club and it was not easy to immediately find a good relationship with the new teammates and our play.

"Now the bad moment has gone and we will take advantage with his performances."

"Considering the performance of Didier today, considering that Fernando scored, we have to try to put both together," the Italian commented.

"We have one week to train, we can try and I think that I will take a decision for the next game."

Ancelotti said Chelsea will fight until the end to retain their crown.

"I don't think Manchester United have more pressure now, they are six points ahead and that is a good gap with just four games left," the Chelsea manager added.

"But we will keep trying to do our best and hope something will happen. If not, we have to celebrate Man United for having a great Premier League season."

The scoreline was harsh on bottom-of-the table West Ham - two points adrift of safety - and Hammers manager Avram Grant reflected: "I think everybody in this room knows that we deserved better.

"Petr Cech was excellent today with two or three great saves. If someone didn't see the game, they think 3-0, Chelsea is much better than us.

"I can be very proud of the players. Without the player of the year [Scott Parker], without Matthew Upson, without Gary O'Neil, and Mark Noble second half, they showed a lot of belief, a lot of spirit.

"If we continue to play like this, we will stay in the league."

Fernando Torres Worth £50 million Says Sir Alex Ferguson

Fernando Torres, Chelsea

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says it will not be long until superstar striker Fernando Torres starts scoring goals for Chelsea.

Torres transferred to Chelsea from Liverpool in January in a £50 million deal. El Nino has yet to score in seven appearances for Chelsea – although he scored 65 goals in 102 games for Liverpool.

"Torres will start scoring. I just hope he waits a little bit, at least until after the tie against us,” said Ferguson

"When Chelsea signed him, everyone said what a great signing he was, and rightly so.

"Now everyone says that it was a mistake. Can people be more ridiculous? He needs time to adapt."

"Last year they beat us with an offside goal, while a month ago David Luiz should have been sent off," Ferguson remarked about United’s history with Chelsea..

"But then again, anyone who wins has a little bit of luck.

"I hope in the Champions League the wind will turn our way.

"Between us and Chelsea, there is no difference.

"It's two teams with plenty of champions, great experience and winning coaches. The small details will define the tie."

Euro 2012: Wales 0-2 England - Rooney Banned From Switzerland Tie

England Manager Fabio Capello, Striker Wayne Rooney

Wales 0-2 England

England are back to the top of their Euro 2012 qualifying Group G, ahead of Montenegro on goal difference.

Although delighted with their victory, Wayne Rooney and England boss Fabio Capello are reportedly frustrated by a ban placed on Roons that suspends him for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland for being given a yellow card.

Rooney will miss the June 4th match against Switzerland.

“He was surprised,” said Capello, after telling Rooney about the ban at half-time. “I told him he would be suspended and he asked me 'why?’ He did not know.”

Capello was disappointed by the suspension of Rooney - who reacted angrily when not awarded a free-kick after being fouled by Andy Crofts. He remonstrated with the referee before throwing himself into a reckless challenge on Joe Ledley - and the referee booked him.

Rooney had also collected a yellow card against Montenegro in October - adding up to today's ban.

"He didn't remember that he got booked."

Rooney came off with 20 minutes to go. The England team doctor said there was no problem once he had examined Rooney after the game.

Otherwise, Capello was pleased with his squad's teamwork.

“Each player helped the other one,” he said. “The spirit was really good. I studied Wales and I decided we would change our style. I asked Scott to help Wilshere and Lampard in midfield and we played on the counter-attack.”

Early goals from Frank Lampard and Darren Bent put Fabio Capello’s men at the top of Euro 2012 qualifying Group G as they easily cruised to victory today.

England’s Frank Lampard scored the opening goal of the match at 7 minutes from the penalty spot. Shortly after, Darren Bent scored a lovely shot at 15 minutes. Jack Wilshere, Scott Parker and Ashley Young, who created both goals.

In a post-game interview, Capello said he wants to meet with Rio Ferdinand to explain why he gave the armband to John Terry.

“I hope I will meet with him,” he said. “I want to speak with him and tell him what really happened.”

England Captain, John Terry, said the Wales supporters made England fight harder when they booed England’s national anthem.

“When you hear that, you are pumped up even more,” said Terry. “It certainly makes you pump your chest out.”

England Squad: Hart, Johnson, Dawson, Armband Man, Cole, Lampard, Parker, Wilshere, Young, Bent, Rooney. Subs: Green, Jagielka, Lescott, Milner, Downing, Defoe, Carroll.

Wales Squad: Hennessey, Gunter, James Collins, Williams, Danny Collins, Bellamy, Crofts, Ramsey, King, Ledley, Morison. Subs: Myhill, Eardley, Gabbidon, Vaughan, Allen, Church, Evans.
