Roy Hodson, Manager England National Team and David Bernstein, FA Chairman
Euro 2012 Update: Roy Hodson Named England Manager
Roy Hodson signed a four-year deal today as manager of the England National Team. Hodgson has managed 18 teams - including three national sides - during his 36-year coaching career.
"It is a very proud day for me, I'm a very happy man to be offered the chance to manage my country," he said.
"I'm looking forward to the task ahead. Everyone knows it is not an easy one but I'm hoping that everyone, fans and supporters will get behind the team.
"It's the team that counts, they go out and win football matches. What I'll do is try to make sure the team is well prepared for the challenge ahead. I'm really looking forward to it."

Hodson, the 64-year-old West Brom boss was the unanimous choice of a four-man selection panel. Football Association chairman David Bernstein said Hodgson was earmarked as the preferred candidate a month ago. He was the only manager approached by the FA about the job despite speculation in the media linking Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp with the vacancy after Fabio Capello quit in February.

Wayne Rooney is suspended for the first two games of Euro 2012, but Hodgson intends to take the Manchester United superstar striker with him to Poland and Ukraine.
"I'm looking forward very much to Wayne Rooney coming to the Euros with us and his contribution, albeit that he can't play the first two games," he said.
Hodgson will have to gain the support of England players, including Wayne Rooney, John Terry, Gary Cahill, Steven Gerrard, and Rio Ferdinand.
"Every coach has got to win over the players. It's not the first time I've stepped into a group I don't know but my CV suggests I've succeeded fairly well with that," said the former Fulham, Liverpool and Inter Milan manager.
"Every coach taking a new job needs to make certain they get the players on side, united behind the cause. We're England, the England football team. We interest a lot of people. I have a lot of responsibility but then so do the players."
Harry Redknapp left a congratulatory phone message for Roy.
"I've got great respect for Harry. He sent me a voicemail message that I will reply to. He's been very gracious," said Hodgson. "I hope we will remain friends. We've unwittingly become rivals but it won't affect our relationship. He's dealt with it well in all his interviews and I appreciate it."
Roy Hodgson, born 9 August 1947),is an English former footballer, who is the current manager of West Bromwich Albion and the new boss of the England national team.
Hodson intends to play to win at Euro 2012.
"I think England always have to go into tournaments to win them because we are a major football nation. The players would be disappointed if we didn't expect less of them than trying to win the tournament. It's always a big job to win people over and it's important first of all to have the chance."

Stuart Pearce, England National Team Manager & Great Britain Olympic Coach
Stuart Pearce England National Team Caretaker Boss
The FA has not yet found a replacement for Fabio Capello to take over the significant position as England National Team Manager for the upcoming EURO 2012 games in Poland and the Ukraine that begin in June.
Until the FA decides, Olympic and under-21 coach Stuart Pearce will take the helm as caretaker boss.
Great Britain's national team has failed to win a major championship since 1966. So fans have put pressure on the FA to choose a manager that is capable of leading England to EURO 2012 silverware.
“He will not definitely be English, but clearly there is a preference for an Englishman or a British person,” said a FA spokesperson.
“In the end we want the best person so I’m certainly not prepared to rule out anything at this stage.”
Tottenham Hotspur coach Harry Redknapp is talked about as being a top choice among fans.
Redknapp was cleared of charges of tax evasion in a high-profile criminal court case in 2011. Redknapp grew up in East London.
“I don’t know anything about the England job, I’ve not thought about it. I’ve got a job to do. Tottenham is my focus,” said Redknapp when asked if he were interested the taking the position of England boss.
If Redknapp does take the job, he might well do so with some trepidation. The intense press scrutiny endured by the England manager famously led sportswriters to dub the role “the impossible job.” No manager has passed the semifinals since Alf Ramsey led his “wingless wonders” to glory against West Germany in 1966. Since then, a string of managers has endured public scorn and the wrath of the British media in failing to deliver the desired result.

Fabio Capello abruptly quit his position as team manager, and reportedly a majority of England fans were relieved. Capello had long been criticized by England's devoted fans due to the fact that he failed to take the team further than the second round at the last World Cup.
In addition, Capello was paid $9.5 million per annum for coaching twelve+ matches a year, and his ability to communicate in English was poor.
Capello resigned as a result of his dispute with the Football Association, over whether team captain John Terry should be stripped of his arm band pending a trial set for July over allegations of racist remarks.
Capello declared he “absolutely” disagreed with his bosses’ decision to strip Terry of his captaincy pending his trial for racial abuse of another player, the Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand, saying, “I have spoken to the chairman and I have said that in my opinion one cannot be punished until it is official and the court—a non-sport court, a civil court—had made a decision to decide if John Terry has done what he is accused of.”
A statement announcing Capello’s departure was issued shortly after his hour-long meeting with FA kingpins.
Capello stated, “I would like to thank all players, staff and Football Association for the professionalism they have shown during my years as manager of the English national team.”
The England manager's job comes under intense press scrutiny, often including revelations about the incumbent's private life. Due to the high level of expectation of both the public and media the role has been described as "the impossible job"second only to the job as Britain's Prime Minister.

Laurent Blanc, France National Team Manager
Euro 2012: France v England 11 Jun 2012 18:00 Donbass Arena Donetsk, Ukraine
The French National Team will take on England in the opening game of Group D at Euro 2012 in Donetsk on 11 June. France v England Tickets EURO 2012 11 Jun 2012 18:00 Donbass Arena Donetsk, Ukraine.
The French national side are looking in very good shape under boss Laurent Blanc going into the European championships - being unbeaten in their previous 18 games.
France manager, Laurent Blanc's contract ends this summer. He was offered a four-year extension in September before qualification for the finals had been secured. However he declined to sign the extension at the time, citing the need to reach Poland and Ukraine first.
Blanc may walk away from his position as boss of the French National Team if an extension to his current contract remain at an impasse and an "exceptional challenge" is offered to him by a leading club side.
Chelsea are searching for a long-term replacement for André Villas-Boas. Both Chelsea FC and Internazionale Milan are reportedly interested in signing Blanc though the 46-year-old insists he has yet to be approached by any club side.
Chelsea are willing to offer the Frenchman a staggering £9 million pounds annually to take over the reins at Stamford Bridge, claim French newspaper Le Parisien.
The former Inter and Manchester United defender will, however, listen to potential offers if the FFF do not return to the negotiating table.
"It's always gratifying when big clubs show an interest in you. My objective remains the European Championship. I am concentrating on that competition. But I would say – and not because I'm putting pressure on anyone, but because I think it – that I often hear it said that it's the boss who decides whether or not to extend the contract of a player or a coach at the end of their deal. I'm fine with that, but don't forget the employee can also make decisions for themselves," said Blanc.
"My intention is to carry on with the France national team. I haven't changed my mind on that. But the situation is that I have not extended my contract. And I'm not the kind of guy who goes knocking on the door – that should be clear."

Harry Redknapp
EURO 2012 UPDATE
Harry Redknapp is the popular favorite to take charge of the England National Team taking the Three Lions to World Cup 2012, following Fabio Capello’s decision to resign last month.
Redknapp is unsure about leaving the Spurs to take the job managing England. The Spurs have risen to third place in the race for the Premier League trophy and and look like they will attain Champions League status this campaign.
“I have a very good job at Tottenham today and I like it. But I do not know. We will wait and see.”
“When you have a club, you are looking for a striker and you take them. When you’re coach, you must do with the players you have in your country,” he added.
“If you do not have a good scorer, you have none. And you almost never see the players. Two days every two months, it is very difficult.”
“The French team has a good team. It will be difficult for England at the Euros. The group is difficult with Sweden and Ukraine.
“I believe Laurent Blanc is doing a very good job. The 2010 World Cup was a disaster, but he has come in and done a great job.”

Wayne Rooney, Manchester United
Wayne Rooney #2 Goalscorer in Premier League
Wayne Rooney says it was a 'dream come true' to net two rapid goals in Manchester United's 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Roo scored his 16th and 17th Premier League goals of the campaign to help Sir Alex Ferguson's club return to the top of the table, even if it was for 24 hours only.
Man Utd superstar striker, Wayne Rooney (@ 17 goals) is catching up to Arsenal's Robin Van Persie (@ 22 goals) as top Premier League goalscorer - as Manchester United ( 58 points) moves in on Manchester City (60 points) at the top of the table in the Premiership title race.
"It's a great feeling to score two goals against Liverpool at Old Trafford," said Rooney. "It obviously helped us win the game and get three points which is something that I had dreamed about as a young boy.
"I think Liverpool came to frustrate us by putting men behind the ball, they did that to a certain extent but we kept pushing and opened them up a couple of times.
"We maybe should have done better in front of goal so when we went in to half time at 0-0, we knew we had to concentrate and come out quickly. We managed to do that and get the two goals early on. It was a great lift for us. It killed the game off a little bit and we felt we were in control."
Liverpool's Luis Suarez grabbed a consolation in the last ten minutes remaining.
"They had a little bit more of possession but they didn't really trouble us to be honest," Rooney continued. "They hit a few long balls into the box which we dealt with quite well and thankfully we saw the game out.
"Anything can happen in these games. Once they got the goal we knew we had to see the game out and we retreated a little bit to get men behind the ball and try to hit them on the counter attack. Thankfully, we managed to see it out and get the three points."
Twenty-four year old Wayne Rooney was born October 24, 1985. Rooney competes for Manchester United in the Premier League and for the England National Team in World Cup soccer. Rooney is a forward at 5'10" and 172 pounds.

Andy Carroll, Liverpool
ANDY CARROLL
Andy Carroll scored the only goal for Arsenal in their 1-1 draw against Ghana.
After being on the sidelines most of 2011, Carroll is confident he is fit and ready to make a winning difference for England.
Carroll started his second game for England National Team, after making his debut against France earlier in the year.
Fabio Capello opted for a new-look 4-3-3 line-up against Ghana. When asked about the new formation, Carroll said he liked it.
"I enjoyed playing there, I got great service and the lads did great," he said.
"It was great to get playing again and get the goal. It was great for me to score another goal. The lads did well, it was disappointing for them to score in the last minute."
"Obviously I am," when asked whether he was ready to prove himself for Capello.
"I’m coming back fit now, getting a goal there has proved that I’m here and I’m ready to score goals if I’m picked."

England Manager Fabio Capello, Striker Wayne Rooney
Wales 0-2 England
England are back to the top of their Euro 2012 qualifying Group G, ahead of Montenegro on goal difference.
Although delighted with their victory, Wayne Rooney and England boss Fabio Capello are reportedly frustrated by a ban placed on Roons that suspends him for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland for being given a yellow card.
“He was surprised,” said Capello, after telling Rooney about the ban at half-time. “I told him he would be suspended and he asked me 'why?’ He did not know.”
Capello was disappointed by the suspension of Rooney - who reacted angrily when not awarded a free-kick after being fouled by Andy Crofts. He remonstrated with the referee before throwing himself into a reckless challenge on Joe Ledley - and the referee booked him.
Rooney had also collected a yellow card against Montenegro in October - adding up to today's ban.
"He didn't remember that he got booked."
Rooney came off with 20 minutes to go. The England team doctor said there was no problem once he had examined Rooney after the game.
Otherwise, Capello was pleased with his squad's teamwork.
“Each player helped the other one,” he said. “The spirit was really good. I studied Wales and I decided we would change our style. I asked Scott to help Wilshere and Lampard in midfield and we played on the counter-attack.”
Early goals from Frank Lampard and Darren Bent put Fabio Capello’s men at the top of Euro 2012 qualifying Group G as they easily cruised to victory today.
England’s Frank Lampard scored the opening goal of the match at 7 minutes from the penalty spot. Shortly after, Darren Bent scored a lovely shot at 15 minutes. Jack Wilshere, Scott Parker and Ashley Young, who created both goals.
In a post-game interview, Capello said he wants to meet with Rio Ferdinand to explain why he gave the armband to John Terry.
“I hope I will meet with him,” he said. “I want to speak with him and tell him what really happened.”
England Captain, John Terry, said the Wales supporters made England fight harder when they booed England’s national anthem.
“When you hear that, you are pumped up even more,” said Terry. “It certainly makes you pump your chest out.”
England Squad: Hart, Johnson, Dawson, Armband Man, Cole, Lampard, Parker, Wilshere, Young, Bent, Rooney. Subs: Green, Jagielka, Lescott, Milner, Downing, Defoe, Carroll.
Wales Squad: Hennessey, Gunter, James Collins, Williams, Danny Collins, Bellamy, Crofts, Ramsey, King, Ledley, Morison. Subs: Myhill, Eardley, Gabbidon, Vaughan, Allen, Church, Evans.

Gareth Bale
Saturday's upcoming match between Wales and England will be like a derby. With all the pre-match fanfare and hype - players, coaches and fans are eagerly anticipating the most exciting International game on the agenda this weekend. The teams are ready to scrap - and due to the unpredictable nature and passion of the fixture either Wales or England could emerge victorious.
There are some changes that have been announced this morning.
Gareth Bale will not be playing and Aaron Ramsay has been named Wales captain by manager Gary Speed.
Gareth Bale has been determined not fit enough to play in Wales' Euro 2012 qualifier against England on Saturday. Bale has been unable to train in Cardiff. Scans last night confirmed he had suffered a hamstring injury before reporting for duty.
Wales reportedly accused Spurs of being "incompetent amateurs" after Bale was forced to pull out.
Other reports suggested Bale was injured during training yesterday and Raymond Verheijen, Wales' assistant manager, was furious, responding with a "incompetent amateurs" rant on his Twitter page.
“Just spoken with the people at Spurs as they thought ‘incompetent amateurs’ had something to do with them. ‘Incompetent amateurs’ are the people who put in the news that Gareth Bale got injured in training with Wales while he did not train at all", said Verheijen to bring clarity to the situation.
“The ‘breaking news’ this morning about Gareth’s hamstring injury made us look like a bunch of amateurs. We had to protect ourselves.”
Aaron Ramsey has been named long-term captain of the Wales squad by manager, Gary Speed.
Former Wales captain, Craig Bellamy, is out due to injury.
Speed said: "Aaron Ramsey will be captain. "I thought about it a lot.
"As I have mentioned before, it is about the future and planning ahead.
"There were two or three candidates. I thought about what is best for the team going forward.
"I spoke to Aaron before making the decision and told him there were certain responsibilities and duties that would go with it, and to see if he was happy with it.
"I'm delighted and he was really happy. I made the decision because I thought it was best for the team and the future of the team."
