Robin Van Persie Named Footballer of the Year 2011-12
.
Robin Van Persie, 28, has scored 34 goals so far this season and is the Premier League’s top scorer this season with 27 goals.
Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year..
The Gunners’ captain was also awarded the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year prize.
The Netherlands forward won the award in the voting ahead of Manchester United pair Wayne Rooney, in second place, and Paul Scholes in third. Fulham’s Clint Dempsey finished fourth.
Van Persie was signed by Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger in 2004 and was used mainly as a second striker after Cesc Fabregas.
“I never really thought that I would end up as a main striker,” recalled the Dutchman. “I actually never played there before – I did it a couple of times at youth level, but it was nothing really special.
“The boss didn’t buy someone else because he was convinced I could do it. I wasn’t so sure.
“Sometimes, you just question yourself, if you are good enough at it. Those answers came,” said Van Persie.
“I have been convinced for a while now that I actually can play as a main striker. I just didn’t know, and now I believe.”
“It goes beyond my level of expectation with the number of goals he has scored. He is sensational as well is as a captain. He has done extremely well on and off the field,” said Wenger.
“Robin has a very healthy life, very focused on football – he takes care of everything. That’s why he manages to do that. He is like Thierry Henry in that respect.
“You have national class, international class and world class, and Robin is world class.”
It is the second time in three years that the winner of the PFA award has gone on to win the FWA prize, after Wayne Rooney achieved the feat in 2010.
FWA chairman Steve Bates, chief football writer at the People, said: “Robin was the overwhelming choice of our members this season and deservedly so after a magnificent campaign for Arsenal.
“The quality of his goals, attacking movement and consistency in a turbulent season for the Gunners has been eye-catching.
“The considerable size of his majority in the votes cast by our members reflected the general view that he has been the season’s most outstanding individual performer.”

Will Shaqueel Van Persie Sign With Arsenal?
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger may hope to sign Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Lukas Podolski and Robin Van Persie’s adorable five-year-old boy, Shaqueel.
Van Persie is tempted, however Shaq is content at this time playing on a kid's team - and may be holding out for a higher-paying offer from super-rich Manchester City.
“I honestly have to say that he has got a lot of talent for football, ” said Robin Van Persie.
“I recognise a lot of stuff of myself in him. His coach is really great. Arsenal has invited him a couple of times to come and play there but he likes it at his club. He’s sensitive for a good atmosphere. Just like me.”

Stunning Man City Offer to Robin Van Persie
Arsenal superstar striker Robin Van Persie leads the Premiership League in goal scored in the 2011-12 campaign with 26 goals to date. Van Persie made his 25th league start of the season last night with a career-high tally for a single campaign. A recent report has revealed that Manchester City are ready to more than three times Robin van Persie’s current pay-packet at Arsenal to bring him to City this summer.
Evidently the cash rich Man City club are willing to pay Van Persie up to £220,000 per week over four years inclusive of add-ons to join their squad.
The £46million deal would be in addition to a massive transfer fee from Man City. Reportedly Arsenal would demand in excess of £25m — a huge amount for a player in the final year of his contract.

Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie
Robin van Persie Confirmed New Arsenal Captain
Robin van Persie has been named as new Arsenal FC team captain.
The Dutch international has been at the Club since May 2004 and succeeds Cesc Fabregas, who signed for Barcelona this week.
"Robin van Persie will be captain this season," Arsène Wenger told the Official Matchday Programme.
"He is a leader through the way he plays, through his attitude and through his desire to win.
"He’s been at the Club a long time and he’s a technical leader as well. Thomas Vermaelen will assist him, it’s the decision I have made and I’m confident the group will respond to it."
Van Persie will not lead Arsenal out against Udinese - he serves a UEFA one-match suspension on Tuesday night - but will reclaim the armband when Liverpool visit north London on Saturday.
