World Cup 2014 winners Germany win the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup Russia

Germany’s Lars Stindl scored the winning goal of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in the 20th minute – the only goal scored in the game – as the Germany National Team defeated Chile 1-0 to become the Confederations Cup Russia champions in the final match held at Saint Petersburg Stadium in Russia. Germany goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegan gets credit for a clean sheet in the exciting final game of the tournament.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen was key to Germany winning the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia. German manager Joachim Low’s side won the final 1-0 thanks to the single first-half goal from Lars Stindl and the perfect goalkeeping of ter Stegan as the titan Germany team saw off a spirited Chile that dominated large parts of the game but could not score against Barcelona superstar goalie Ter Stegen, who picked up a clean sheet making crucial saves.

Arturo Vidal went close for Chile in the first half before being denied by the Barca goalkeeper. Eduardo Vargas had a great chance for a late equalizer with 15 minutes to go, but could not beat the Ter Stegen. Chile pressed hard for an equalizer as Ter Stegen again denied Vidal from close range before pulling off a smart stop from an Alexis Sanchez free kick with only minutes remaining, as Germany held out for the victory.

The 2018 World Cup Russia draw will be staged in the State Kremlin Palace, a building intended to house meetings of the Soviet Union's Communist Party that is now used as a concert hall. Fifa has confirmed the draw for the 2018 World Cup is set to take place in the Kremlin on Friday, December 1.A Unesco World Heritage site, the Kremlin is a fortified complex in the heart of Moscow that contains several cathedrals and palaces, including the official residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A Fifa spokesperson confirmed the location of the World Cup 2018 draw.

"Fifa and the local organizing committee can confirm that the final draw for the 2018 Fifa World Cup will take place on December 1 in the concert hall of the State Kremlin Palace, in Moscow,” said a FIFA spokesperson. "This prestigious entertainment venue with a capacity of 6,000 spectators has hosted many international and locally renowned artists in the past, as well as traditional ballets and operas."

Fifa's confirmation followed an earlier report from Vitaly Mutko, the president of the Russian Football Union. Mutko is a former president of Russia's richest football team, Zenit Saint Petersburg.

"The final draw for the World Cup has been scheduled for December 1, and we have offered the Kremlin as the venue for this event," said Mutko. "This proposal suited Fifa and we are already in preparations for the draw."

This summer's World Cup 2018 Russia dress rehearsal, the Confederations Cup is a milestone for eastern Europe's first World Cup. The Confederations Cup which took place between June 17 and July 2, featured Russia, 2014 World Cup winners Germany and the six reigning champions of world football's Confederations: Australia, Chile, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal and the winners of the on-going Africa Cup of Nations.

Russia beat bids from Belgium/Netherlands, England, and Portugal/Spain to host the 2018 World Cup at a vote in December 2010.

Russia has already taken a massive step forward by announcing that visa requirements, which currently pretty much apply to anyone, not from a former Soviet republic, will be scrapped for the duration of the tournament. Russia has limited its World Cup venues to the western side of the country, with Siberia and the Pacific coast missing out entirely. Divided into four clusters, the games will be centered around Moscow, St Petersburg, the Volga River, and the Black Sea resort of Sochi, with matches also due to take place in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg.

Arsenal striker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring for England. Just in time, England Captain Harry Kane volleyed in an injury-time equalizer to tie the score against the Scots 2-2 after Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths came through with two superlative free kicks that looked like legend-making magic to Scottish fans as the strikes went to the right and left of England super goalie No.1, Joe Hart.  Scotland were ever so close to their first win over the auld enemy since 1999 - their first at Hampden since 1985. Gordon Strachan’s Scotland side almost tasted victory against their arch-rivals England, but instead, two precious World Cup points went up in smoke. England goalkeepers (Burnley's) Tom Heaton and (Stoke's) Jack Butland will each play a half for England against France on Tuesday at the Stade de France in Paris in their upcoming International friendly against France.England No.1 goalkeeper Joe Hart, who conceded two late free-kicks against Scotland in the World Cup 2018 First Round qualifier on Saturday in Glasgow will not travel to Paris with the first team for the friendly against France.

"It was never my intention to play Joe in this game," said England manager Gareth Southgate before the match in Paris.

England Captain Harry Kane volleys in an injury-time equalizer to tie score against Scotland 2-2

Tottenham Hotspur star striker Harry Kane will remain captain after leading his England side as they drew 2-2 with Scotland in a fight to the finish on Saturday. In his past four appearances for club and country combined, Harry Kane has scored nine goals.

Thirty-one-year-old Heaton will make his debut start for England in a career that has seen him play in all four divisions in England. Heaton did not feature on the first team at Manchester United and has since played for Swindon, Antwerp, Cardiff, QPR, Rochdale, Wycombe and Bristol City as well as the Clarets.

Heaton will be winning his third cap for England with both of his previous appearances coming off the bench.

"Obviously I have played across all four divisions, the ambition never left me, that hunger to play for England," Heaton said. "It might have felt, for other people, a long way off at certain times, playing down in League Two, but I never lost that belief."

Manchester City goalkeeper Hart played the full 90 minutes at Hampden Park, giving up two late free kicks from Scotland’s Leigh Griffiths.

After the match, Southgate was asked if Hart was at fault for the goals.

"They were great free-kicks. Beyond that, coaching conversations I have with players stay private,” said Southgate. "If we go down that route then it's not the right thing to do. I go back to the concession of free-kicks being the starting point. There are many areas we could have done better."

Scotland v England - FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifier

Thirty-year-old Joe Hart has won 71 caps for England. However, Hart faces fierce competition from Butland, Heaton, and Southampton's Fraser Forster to keep his No.1 shirt.

"You need to give players the opportunity," said Southgate. "In the past, one or two keepers have given up international football because they've not had that chance, so I'm conscious of keeping players involved."

Butland returned to active play in late April after being sidelined with a fractured ankle while on England duty in March 2016.

"We think he can also challenge for the number one spot,” said Southgate. "It is a difficult call on Fraser, who is also a very good keeper. With those four and [Sunderland's] Jordan Pickford, plus a couple of lads coming up potentially from the Championship next year, we are very healthy."

England’s clash with France on Tuesday will be the first senior England fixture with a video assistant referee. The use of VARs is being trialed by world governing body Fifa and may feature in next year's World Cup. Italian Davide Massa will referee the match, with two conventional assistant referees.

The Oasis song Don't Look Back in Anger will be played before the game as the French pay their respects to those killed in the recent attacks in London and Manchester. Fans will hold up red and white placards to form the England flag as the song is played just before the players emerge from the tunnel. Both teams will wear black armbands and a minute's silence will also be observed prior to the match.

England have won only one of their past six away games against France (D1 L4) - a 1-0 win under Glenn Hoddle in June 1997. However, they did win their last meeting with Les Bleus, in a friendly at Wembley in November 2015 (2-0).

WORLD CUP RUSSIA 2018

World Cup 2018 Russia is only 15 months away and the latest round of qualifying games are just around the corner. Titan teams expected to challenge for the coveted trophy in Russia are Brazil, Germany, France, and Belgium. Argentina’s fate is less certain due to their superstar striker Lionel Messi’s four match ban.

Brazil are top of the South American qualifying round, having been rejuvenated under manager Tite’s leadership with Argentina in fifth with a key game against Chile coming up on Thursday. Spain, France, Poland, Republic of Ireland and Croatia sit atop their groups. DR Congo, Nigeria and Egypt are on top with six points from their opening games. Meanwhile Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Japan are top of their gourps.

World Cup Russia 2018 is the last chance for Lionel Messi to be crowned the undisputed king of football, as Maradona was in Mexico in 1986  The match against Chile on Thursday in Buenos Aires on the Road to World Cup Russia; it is a must-win for Messi’s national team. Argentina’s new head coach Edgardo Bauza decided to keep players Tata Martino and Alejandro Sabella who did not play in the past six years. Footballers Gonzalo Higuaín, Ángel Di María, Sergio Agüero, Javier Mascherano and Lionel Messi have a good chance to become world champions after losing three major finals in the past three years (Brazil 2014, Copa Américai Chile 2015, and US 2016).

With four rounds of World Cup Qualifiers fixtures remaining in the South American qualifying competition, Brazil are in first place with 33 points, followed by Colombia (24), Uruguay and Chile (23). Argentina (22) are in fifth place, thereby earning a two-leg play-off against the top-ranked Oceania region side.

Brazil became the first team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup Russia, maintaining their amazing record as the tournament’s only side to have qualified to play in every World Cup Tournament in history. The five-times champs beat Paraguay 3-0 for their eighth successive win in the South American qualifying competition. Peru’s surprise 2-1 win over Uruguay in a later game guaranteed Brazil a top-four finish. Uruguay and Argentina still have to face each other which means it is impossible for both teams to overtake Brazil.

In Brazil’s crucial win, Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho curled in a low opener for Brazil and Barcelona forward Neymar capped an exciting evening with a goal in the second half and Marcelo added a third goal late in São Paulo.

“My greatest joy is sharing joy,” Brazil manager Tite said. “When you look at the face of your family, when you see the players happy, when you see a happy little child, sharing joy is my greatest satisfaction. More pleasure.”

Neymar captained his side against the Paraguay defenders.

“I always think of overcoming my limits,” Neymar said. “First of all I want to help my team, always, and then I think about pushing the limits, reaching the marks of games and goals. I am very happy for this moment, not only mine, but also my team-mates. We are achieving our goals, which is to win and reach the World Cup as well.”

Paraguay coach, Juan Carlos Arce, was critical of the referee, Victor Carrillo, after the game. “The refereeing was bad today,” he said. “It is a shame, Brazil does not need it.”

Meanwhile Argentina dropped down to fifth in the standings after losing 2-0 away to Bolivia at high altitude in La Paz without Messi as he began his four-match ban. Five-times world player of the year Messi was suspended less than six hours before kick-off for swearing at an assistant linesman in the previous match that Argentina won 1-0 win against Chile. Messi will be available only for the last of Argentina’s games in Ecuador. Messi has appealed the severity of the ban.

Russia supporters are at risk of missing their own World Cup while Russian networks struggle to agree deal with Fifa. TV networks are struggling to reach a deal to secure the rights to show World Cup 2018. The country has invested around $11bn in preparation to host the 2018 tournament, but with only 14 months to go until the World Cup finals kick off, governing body Fifa are still looking for a broadcaster to show the games in Russia after state-run TV channels firmly turned down Fifa’s price of $120m for the rights to show the tournament. Fifa are being unreasonable in their financial demands.

World Cup Draw

The draw for the 2018 World Cup Russia is set to take place in the Kremlin on Friday, December 1. A Unesco World Heritage site, the Kremlin is a fortified complex in the heart of Moscow that contains several cathedrals and palaces, one of which is the official residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The draw itself will be staged in the State Kremlin Palace, a building intended to house meetings of the Soviet Union's Communist Party but now used as a concert hall.
