Community Shield Competition Fierce at the Top

Competition is intense in the fight to play for the FA Community Shield (formerly the Charity Shield) – an exciting annual match between the Premier League Champions and the FA Cup winners at Wembley Stadium in London.

Manchester City defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers winning 4-3 moving briefly into first place in English soccer’s Premier League. Carlos Tevez scored two goals as City went one point ahead of rival Manchester United in the Premiership standings.

Arsenal defeated West Ham 3-0, Chelsea beat Blackburn 2-0, West Brom defeated Blackpool 3-2, Stoke beat Bolton 2-0 and Wigan drew 1-1 with Fulham.

Currently, Manchester United (1), Manchester City (2), Arsenal (3), Chelsea (4), and Spurs (5) are on top of the Premier League.

Spain are on top followed by World Cup finalists Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, England, Uruguay, Portugal, Croatia, and Egypt in the fight for the FA Cup Championship.

The final remaining Championship side Ipswich will face Arsenal in the semi-finals of this season's Carling Cup.

West Ham will play Birmingham.

The first legs take place at Portman Road and Upton Park respectively in the week commencing January 10th, before the second legs a fortnight later.
