Everton Vs. Newcastle United - Premier League

Wayne Rooney, Everton Fc, D.C. United

Wayne Rooney left Everton this summer

Wayne Rooney made his MLS debut with D.C. United, playing 32 minutes in their opening game 3-1 victory against Vancouver Whitecaps at home at Audi Field. Everton superstar striker Rooney left Everton and the England Premier League during the summer transfer window to play in the United States for MLS club DC United based in Washington DC.

England’s record goalscorer had rejoined the Toffees after 13 years at Manchester United, where he is also the all-time leading scorer, last summer but has left just 12 months later for a new challenge in the United States. Rooney turns 33 in October.

“It is fantastic to be joining DC United at such an exciting time in the club’s history with the new stadium opening in just a few weeks,” said Rooney, who signed a three-and-a-half-year contract. “Moving to America and MLS fulfills another career ambition for me. I have the hunger to be a success here and will give DC 100% – as I have always done for every team I have ever played for. When I visited earlier this summer I was really impressed with everyone I met connected with the club, and of course the new Audi Field. Now I can’t wait to get on the pitch in a United shirt and join my new teammates to bring success to this club.”

DC United are successful in a deal to sign Everton forward Wayne Rooney who rejoined his boyhood club Everton in July 2017 having spent 13 seasons at Manchester United. DC United wanted to get a deal "over the line" to bring former Man United and England captain Wayne Rooney to MLS, says coach Ben Olsen. Everton had given Rooney permission to speak to the American club and a deal has been agreed. Rooney, 32, is believed to have been offered a deal until the end of the 2020 season. Rooney, who still has a year left on his contract at Goodison Park, has visited Washington in a fact-finding mission. Roo made 40 appearances for Everton last season and was their top goal scorer with 11 goals. Rooney holds the record for scoring the most goals in history for Manchester United.

"There is interest in Wayne Rooney from our end and I think there is interest from his end too," added DC United manager Olsen. "Nothing is done, so I don't want to get into talk of arrival until he actually arrives. Nothing is ever done in this world when you're looking at a deal of this scope and size. We'll see, but hopefully, we can get it done."

Former Manchester United celeb-star Zlatan Ibrahimovic transferred from Manchester United recently to compete for MLS club LA Galaxy. Ibra formerly also played for Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona and has been awarded Sweden's best male player award, the Guldbollen, 11 times since 2005.

Everton Vs. Newcastle United - Premier League

Everton FC had a good season last year finishing 8th in the top half of the English Premier League with 49 points. With Sam Allardyce gone, Wayne Rooney may decide to stay at Everton.

EFL Cup: Manchester United strikers Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford, Zlatan Ibrahimovic celebrate!

EFL Cup semi-final results: Manchester United 2-0 Hull City, Southampton 1-0 Liverpool

In their first leg FA Cup semi-final tie Manchester United continued their winning streak by beating Hull City at Wembley with second half goals from Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini. United have won their last nine games in all competitions. Juan Mata has scored in three of his past four EFL Cup matches scoring two goals for Manchester United, and one goal for Chelsea. Liverpool lost their first leg FA Cup semi-final tie to a fit and agressive Southampton 1-0.

With a second leg still to come, Manchester United and Southampton go into their ties with the lead after Hull City and Liverpool lost their first semi-final matches. Giant Premier League sides Manchester United and Liverpool remain confident of winning their second-leg clashes to go on to compete in a battle of the titans in the 2017 FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hopes to protect his record of never losing a semi-final match. Klopp said, “When you can smell the final you do everything to get there.”

Before the game Southampton manager Claude Puel was confident.

"We played Liverpool in the Premier League and it was a strong game for us with organisation," said Frenchman Puel. "We played strong and were strong in defence. We played at a good level but it will be important for this game to have more of the ball and try and have control of the game. Their ability to control the ball along with good pressing, with technical players, is exciting. We want to exploit them. The players are ready for the game. It is an exciting challenge for us. The Premier League game was strong, there are many games in January, different possibilities. This game is important and I think my players are ready for the game."

Manchester United's season has taken a definite upswing on the road to Premier League silverware and a spot in next season's Champions League! United’s joint top goal scorer in history Wayne Rooney has won every domestic title and trophy after the Red Devils defeated Crystal Palace 1-2 in the 2016 FA Cup Final.

Titan Premier League club Manchester United have won eight consecutive matches for the first time since September 2009. Veteran Manchester United superstar striker and team captain Wayne Rooney equaled United's goal scoring record today. Anthony Martial scored after Rooney, and teenager Marcus Rashford scored twice as United easily beat Reading 4-0 in the FA Cup third round on Saturday at Old Trafford as Manchester United continued their defence of the coveted FA Cup trophy at home against Championship club Reading, managed by former Man United defender Jaap Stam. FA Cup holders Man United powered through to the FA Cup fourth round.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho said after the match, “We know that Wayne Rooney will be the best scorer” for the club after the England captain equaled Sir Bobby Charlton’s goal scoring record during their 4-0 victory against Reading in the FA Cup third round.

In United’s eighth win in a row, Wayne Rooney became Manchester United's joint all-time leading scorer as the holders cruised into the FA Cup fourth round. Rooney earned his 249th goal for United within 10 minutes to match the 44-year-old record of Sir Bobby Charlton, who was at the match watching.

Anthony Martial added a second in the first half. Marcus Rashford added the third then doubled his tally after an error by Reading keeper Ali Al-Habsi.

The loss marked the Old Trafford return for Reading boss and former United defender Jaap Stam, whose team was outclassed throughout the matchNext for United is Tuesday's EFL Cup semi-final first leg against Hull.

Rooney has featured for United in 543 games for the club since arriving from Everton in a £27m transfer in 2004.With only seven minutes on the clock United skipper Rooney put his right knee to Juan Mata's lofted pass to guide the ball beyond Reading goalie Al-Habsi to score.

“Rooney's landmark strike arrived 215 matches and four seasons quicker than Charlton's 249th, which came in a 2-0 victory over Southampton in March 1973.”

Young Frenchman Martial added United's second after 15 minutes and again Rooney was involved, playing the go-between in a one-two that resulted in the 21-year-old advancing unchallenged before curling in a lovely finish. Rooney came close to a historic 250th United goal when his close-range follow-up hit the leg of the sprawling Al-Habsi. Rashford scored his first goal in 18 games.

Wayne Rooney said it was an honor to be one of Manchester United’s two top goal scorers in the history of the club.

"To do it at such a massive club like Manchester United, I am hugely honoured and it is really proud moment for me. It was not something I could have imagined. You don't think that far ahead, but I have been at this club a long time, it is a huge part of my life and it is an honour to be up there alongside Sir Bobby”, said Rooney. "You want to do records in front of your home fans and we have got two home games coming up and hopefully I can get the next one in one of those."

Jose Mourinho, United manager, was happy with his side’s professional performance.

"I am happy because it was a professional job from minute one. We knew Reading could create difficulties, especially if you allow them to settle in the game,” said Mourinho. "It is also good for me to see some of the players that are not starting in many games - they are good physically and I can count on them for the rest of the season.”
