EFL Cup - Carabao Cup Fourth-Round Fixtures, Results, Photos

England Premier Leage giants Manchester United went through to the Carabao Cup Quarter Finals due to a brace friom twenty-four-year-old Jesse Lingard who stood out as on target to beat the Swans 2-0 in an otherwise dull EFL Cup match. Swansea City suffered their fifth defeat in six games, while the Red Devils put aside their shock Premier League defeat at Huddersfield to secure the crucial win the holders needed to compete again on the Road to the Carabao Cup title.

Bournemouth defeated Middlesbrough 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium, while Championship Club Bristol City won 4-1 against Crystal Palace at Ashton Gate. Leicester City defeated Leeds 3-1 at the King Power Stadium. Arsenal’s match against Norwich went to extra time, finishing one apiece after 90 minutes. At the Etihad Stadium, the final score was Manchester City 4-1 Wolves as Man City won on penalties. Manchester City superstar goalie Claudio Bravo’s two penalty saves helped City go past Wolverton in the shootout. Hero of the Match Bravo knocked a hard-fighting Wolves out of the EL Cup in the penalty shootout before City’s superstar striker Sergio Agüero’s chipped a decicive spot-kick after Bravo had first saved Alfred N’Diaye’s effort to his right, and Conor Coady’s to his left. Agüero went into the EFL Cup clash hoping to claim a club-record 178th goal but was unable to convert several chances. Kun’s penalty was a consolation. On Wednesday, titan Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur won their ties to go through knocking out Everton and West Brom respectively.

PREMIER LEAGUE TOP GOAL SCORERS: HARRY KANE

Premier League 2016 - 2017 Top Goal Scorers: Harry Kane

This season Harry Kane, Tottenham Hotspur; Romelu Lukaku, Everton; Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal; Diego Costa, Chelsea; Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Manchester United; Jermain Defoe, Sunderland; Dele Ali, Tottenham Hotspur; Kun Aguero, Manchester City; Sadio Mane, Liverpool; and Eden Hazard, Chelsea are the top 10 goal scorers to date in the England Premier League. Tottenham’s top goal scorer this season to date is Englishman Harry Kane. After Matchweek 27’s Round of EPL fixtures, Chelsea is in first place on the 2016-17 England Premier League Table. Tottenham Hotspur is in second, Manchester City is in third, Liverpool is in fourth, Arsenal is in fifth, Manchester United in in sixth, and Everton is in seventh.

Tottenham 3-2 Everton

Spurs goals: Harry Kane 20, Harry Kane 56, Dele Alli 90 +1:46

Everton goals: Romelu Lukaku 81, Enner Valencia 90 +2:56

An Everton team that arrived at White Hart Lane unbeaten in nine Premier League games, with five clean sheets in the last seven, left in defeat with Harry Kane being a key in their loss. Harry Kane’s opening goal at 20 minutes paved the way for one the Spurs best spells of the season. The second half started just as well as Harry finished clinically for 2-0. With 10 minutes left, Romelu Lukaku pulled a goal back. Dele Alli made it safe at 3-1 on 92 minutes before Enner Valencia pulled another goal back seconds later, but Spurs had another massive three points in the bag.

Tottenham Hotspur superstar striker Harry Kane outplayed Everton’s Lukaku to lay claim to being the current Premier League's sharpest striker, scoring a brace in the Spur’s 3-2 victory against Everton on Sunday. Deli Ali scored the late winner for Tottenham. Kane claimed top spot on the EPL goal scoring charts, while manager Mauricio Pochetino’s Tottenham Hotspur side fortified their hold on second place in the standings and put pressure on leaders Chelseea with a ninth successive  league win at home, moving to within seven points of league leaders The Blues. Despite missing 10 games of the campaign due to injury, Kane has amassed 24 goals in all competitions in the 2016-17 season — only four goals behind his haul last season with more than two months remaining to add to his goal tally. Kane had already sent Tottenham into a two-goal lead, including a spectacular long-range dipping strike, when Romelu Lukaku finally managed his first attempt on target in the 81th minute. Enner Valencia scored Everton’s second goal.

Squads

Tottenham Hotspur

Lloris, Dier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Walker, Wanyama, Dembele, Davies, Eriksen, Alli, Kane. Subs: Son, Janssen, Vorm, Trippier, Sissoko, Wimmer, Winks.

Everton

Referee: Michael Oliver

Soon White Hart Lane will be rebuilt, and the Spurs are treating fans to great memories of their last matches as Tottenham delivered their ninth straight Premier League victory at the old stadium that has been their home since 1899. The Spurs plan is to vacate White Hart Lane for the entire next season before they return to a rebuilt 61,000-seat stadium in 2018-19.

Mauricio Pochettino’s players are on a massive roll that it feels as though visiting teams are forced to play against Pochettino’s 3-4-2-1 system. Romelu Lukaku’s late goal threatened an Everton revival but Dele Alli’s stoppage-time goal turned the tide. Pochettino’s was obviously thrilled with Tottenham’s result that keeps them on the heels of the league leaders, Chelsea.

Kane began the game with three hat-tricks since the start of the year. He was denied in two attempts by the goalkeeper Joel Robles, with the second on 82 minutes a great opportunity. However Kane managed to defeat Robles in his next attempts and scored twice. The 23-year-old is now the outright top scorer in the league this season, with 19 goals, one more than Lukaku, and he has 24 in all competitions.

Tottenham policed Lukaku diligently, with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen keeping the prolific striker to only one goal. However Lukaku managed to race through to send a low shot past Hugo Lloris giving the Spurs a scare. Then Alli’s goal put the result beyond doubt. Valencia had the last word, when he converted from Séamus Coleman’s free-kick. But Italian Pochettino’s team had done already done enough to earn three points.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with the win and three points added to their tally. The Italian also commented on Hugo Lloris’s 200th appearance for the Spurs. Lloris has been one of the best keepers in the EPL this season, conceding a league-best 17 goals, with 23 clean sheets. The French international is a key reason why the Spurs have the best defensive record in the league and are undefeated this season at White Hart Lane.

“We played with a lot of confidence, always knowing what we needed to do in every moment and that was fantastic,” said Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino. “The team showed big confidence and that’s important for us because now we’re at the most important period with the Premier League and FA Cup and we have that consistency and that belief. Overall, it was a very good win, a fantastic performance. Okay, in the end we’re a little disappointed to concede the last goal. The first can happen, the second when the game was over after Dele scored, I’m a little disappointed because we showed a lack of concentration and that can’t happen again, but without that, we played very well. We played a fantastic first half and the second half we dominated and played with good quality and a high tempo. I’m very pleased for everyone and we have to keep going.”

“Everton was a very difficult opponent, we knew that,” continued Pochettino. “We played much, much better and if you see the score, 3-2, maybe that’s not fair because that makes it look like a very competitive game but we deserved more. Sometimes that happens. The most important thing for us was to get the three points, important to keep our position in the table fighting for the highest position and to be there if Chelsea fail.”

“It’s amazing for him and I congratulate him. Hugo is a great professional, a great goalkeeper and it’s fantastic for him," added Pochettino about Spurs captain and No. 1 goalie Hugo Lloris.

Great last minute Saint Etienne v Manchester United tickets are still available now online at LiveFootballTickets.com! Be there to watch Man United go for Europa League silverware. Red Devils captain Wayne Rooney did not travel with his side (see story).

In the first leg of their Round 32 tie, Man United ended Saint-Étienne's ten-game unbeaten run in Europe this season, and United are favored to win the second leg. Former PSG superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimović has scored 17 goals in 14 matches against St-Étienne including a deflected free-kick, a tap-in and a penalty in United's 3-0 first-leg triumph.

Prior to losing their first leg Old Trafford match, St-Étienne were undefeated in ten European matches this season. They are still unbeaten in ten European home games but four of their five Stade Geoffroy Guichard fixtures this term have ended in draws, three of them goalless. European Cup runners-up in 1976, St-Étienne were eliminated in last season's UEFA Europa League round of 32 by Basel. Their best campaigns in this competition culminated in the quarter-finals in 1980 and 1981. United got to the last 16 in 2015/16, but the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League remains the only major UEFA trophy they have never won. Continental champions in 1968, 1999 and 2008, the Red Devils lifted the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1991. United's Paul Pogba came up against his older brother, St-Étienne defender Florentin Pogba, in the 16 February first leg.

United's Ibrahimović enjoyed playing St-Étienne during his time in France; he scored 14 goals in 13 games against Les Verts in all competitions.

Before breaking through at Monaco, United's Anthony Martial signed his first professional contract with St-Étienne's main rivals, Lyon. His record in two matches against Les Verts with Monaco is D1 L1 – he struck in a 1-1 draw against St-Étienne in April 2015.

United reserve goalkeeper Sergio Romero turns 30 the day of the second leg, 24 hours after defender Phil Jones's 25th birthday.

United's Chris Smalling and Wayne Rooney played at St-Étienne's Stade Geoffroy Guichard in England's 0-0 draw with Slovakia at UEFA EURO 2016. Old Trafford team-mate Marcus Rashford was an unused substitute.

St-Étienne coach since 2009, Christophe Galtier steered Les Verts to French League Cup success in 2012/13. He had worked as assistant to Alain Perrin at St-Étienne prior to getting the top job. Originally a defender, he began his playing career at home-town club Marseille.

José Mourinho took over as United boss last summer. Having made his name winning the UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League with Porto, he landed Europe's top club prize again with Internazionale Milano as well as three Premier League titles during two stints at Chelsea. In Mourinho's last foray in this competition, he guided Porto to the 2003 UEFA Cup final, where they edged Celtic 3-2 in Seville

Tottenham Hotspur Loves David Beckham

David Beckham Trains With Tottenham Hotspur - Winter 2011

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has hinted he may try to sign England international David Beckham when his LA Galaxy contract expires.

Former England captain, Beckham has been training with the Spurs, but for the time being, Spurs and Galaxy have been unable to agree a short-term loan deal.

According to Redknapp, midfielder Beckham is fit and looking like Spurs material.

When asked about the potential of Beckham joining the Spurs, Redknapp said: "I could do, yeah. I love him, I love the way he plays. That ball that Van der Vaart hit for Crouchy, David hit about seven of them the other morning in training.

"It was like he had radar and Crouchy kept heading them in the goal. I kept saying 'That's what I have been asking you to do lads'.

"David has been fantastic. He is a top-class bloke. He has been great around the place. You would love to have him at your club."

Redknapp remarked on Beckham’s determination and work ethic during his time with the Spurs. "I think David will go back on the ninth (of February). I would like to have had him playing as he has looked great in training.

"He is so slim and so fit, he is a fanatical trainer. He works in the morning and the afternoon in the gym. He just loves playing football.

"He could be at home now sitting around the pool. I am sure he has a decent enough semi in Los Angeles but he is over here wanting to play football. Most footballers would want to be in Los Angeles.

"But that is what has made him what he is. He wants to keep playing and he is a mega rich man. He just loves the game."
