Ibra Makes History in Sweden's Friends Arena

Ibra Makes History in Sweden's Friends Arena

Joe Hart came out of his goalie area to head off a shot.

"I saw him come out and had to decide whether I should go in a duel in the air or wait for him to head it out," Ibrahimovic said. "When he headed it I had it in my mind to try to score. I hit it in mid-air and, when I landed, saw their defender running back to try to clear but it bounced over him. It was a good try, that is all. When it comes off it looks fantastic but, for me, I liked the first goal more because it was history: the first in the new arena."

"Sometimes, when he does these things in training or in a match, you don't think it's possible," said Sweden Manager Erik Hamren.

"Sometimes you feel you're looking at a computer game where you can do all these incredible things, because that's not possible to do that, that fourth goal. When you're working with him, often you can be surprised in training, too, because sometimes things happen that you've never seen before. I'm really lucky to have the opportunity to see him often.

"He's a true captain these days, taking care especially of the young guys. They've had him as a hero as they grew up, and now they're sitting beside him in the training camp. I saw him sitting yesterday with three of the least experienced players in the squad, after lunch, talking with them. They were just eating up his words. Listening."

Ibracadabra Scores Four Goals - Sweden 4 - 2 England

Zlatan Ibrahimivic, Sweden Captain

Sweden 4 - 2 England

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored an amazing four goals as Sweden avenged their 3-2 loss to England at Euro 2012 with a 4-2 victory over England today at Sweden's new National Friends Arena.

England captain Steven Gerrard celebrated his 100th cap.

Scoring four goals, Zlatan Ibrahimovic moved ahead of Henrik Larsson and into third place in the list of Sweden's all-time top scorers.

“I think Steven Gerrard is a fantastic player,” said Ibrahimovic. “He has been loyal to his club and he has won some big trophies with the club. He always plays at a high level, when he is not injured.

“He is a very good person to have as a team-mate in your team. He always gives 200 percent, is a good fighter, and has good skills.

“He feels more like an international player, rather than a normal English player. English players have big hearts and are always fighting, very aggressive, but for me, Gerrard feels more international. He has more skills than the normal player.”

"I thought it was a good performance," said Hodgson.

"Obviously, it was disappointing to concede three goals in the last 15 minutes when we were looking so good at 2-1.

"Ibrahimovic scored a wonder goal to put the icing on cake, but for large periods of the game, I can be more than satisfied. Many players who got a chance came out with great credit."
