Manchester United update

David de Gea will not leave Man Utd, says his boss and manager Jose Mourinho.

World-class Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is not leaving, says Jose Mourinho. Mourinho says there is "no chance" David de Gea will leave Man United this summer. De Gea is competing in his seventh season at United, his best campaign at Old Trafford to date. The No.1 goalie will reportedly be offered a new five-year contract by the Red Devils. Spain La Liga giant club Real Madrid previously chased De Gea but have turned their attention to Chelsea's goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Asked if De Gea could leave United this summer, Mourinho said: "No chance." Mourinho defended his decision to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, who face arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, Jose Mourinho says United will give retiring Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger a respectful send-off when they meet at Old Trafford this Sunday. Sanchez scored in United's FA Cup semi-final victory over Tottenham last weekend, but Mourinho said he never had any doubt over the transfer.

Manager Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side takes on old rivals Arsene Wenger and Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League. Ahead of the clash, Mourinho gave his opinion of his time at Old Trafford.

"I was always very Portuguese in the sense that I'm always ready to discover and try new things, always ready to change country, to change club, to change culture, to change everything in the search of new things," said Mourinho. "I did all of that. So when I came in this period to Manchester United I was ready for this and I knew it was not to come and have simultaneous success. But, in spite of it, three trophies, three finals, probably a third or fourth in worst case scenario. Not bad."

Mourinho stressed that changing and improving United's fortunes is a work in progress but Jose believes his achievements are "not bad" considering the scale of the challenge. Mourinho succeeded Louis van Gaal (who may replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal) in May 2016 and won the EFL Cup to become the first manager in Manchester United history to win a trophy in his debut season at the club. Europa League glory in Stockholm followed in May 2017 to earn Man United a spot in the Champions League and take Mourinho's trophy haul to three, alongside August's Community Shield victory. Mourinho will take his side back to Wembley for the FA Cup final against Chelsea Fc on May 19th.

United currently are 2nd in the Premier League, 16 points behind current champions Manchester City, a major improvement on last season's 6th place finish. And, with the chance to get their hands on another piece of silverware in the FA Cup Final , Mourinho is content with what he has achieved so far.

"I knew the club I was coming to," said Mourinho. "I know that one thing is to go to a club that is prepared to win and you just need to arrive and give the last touches, to give your personal quality, personal knowledge and the team, and the club, is ready just for the last click. "I knew that was not the case at United. The owners knew that. The CEO, he knew that. So when the question was, in this period of my career, am I ready for this kind of job? Yes, I am ready because my career was about new things all the time."

Alexis Sanchez is set to face former club Arsenal on Sunday

"He was playing in the Premier League for years," said Mourinho. "We all know how good he was, that's why he was chased by many teams I believe. That's why we fought to have him here and I was sure he was the right player not just by his typical playing qualities but by his mentality. We needed that, a bit more experience, mental aggressiveness. It was now or never so it was now."

Manchester City 5-0 Swansea City

An in-form Manchester City side celebrated winning the Premier League with a stunning home performance for their fans, and lots of goals coming from David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne, Moto Silva, Gabriel Jesus and company in an inspirational display of talent at the Etihad. City made 1015 passes in their big 5-0 win on Sunday against the Swans who were unable to score a single goal. Ederson gets credit for the clean sheet. City are the first Premier League club ever to break the 1000-pass barrier. City had 83% possession. The massive win takes Man City up to 90 points, 16 points clear of Manchester United. They need two more wins to break Chelsea’s record points tally from 2004-05. City visit West Ham next week.

An inspired Kevin De Bruyne took a couple of touches, looked up and sent a hard hit superb shot past Swan's goalie Lukasz Fabianski from 25 yards, the ball whizzing off his right foot and soaring into the top-right corner! What a phenomenal goal by one of Man City's key football players!

“I don’t score a lot of goals inside the box. I get more opportunities to shoot from far away," said Kevin de Bruyne. "You try it. You know you have a clean strike, you feel it. It is the first time for me to be a champion and it feels nice. I was with my family, I was playing mini-golf with my son when City were confirmed as champions. It was a very nice feeling. We wanted to perform in this game. The fans enjoy it if you give the effort and play the way we did today.”

Premier League Big Six Managers

The overall control of the England top-tier Premier League by the top six sides called the "Big Six" has increased this season primarily due to their dedicated, skilled, creative managers as well as the top talent the managers have recruited and attracted for their titan clubs. However, it will be difficult now for another team to establish themselves among the powerful, rich elite clubs that control the top of the table. The England Premier League is the top, most competitive and most unpredictable pro football league in the world. The gigantic sums of money Premier League teams can now offer their recruits has improved the quality of famous superstar players they can now attract. Here are some articles and photos of the "Big Six" managers:

MANCHESTER CITY WIN 2018-19 PREMIER LEAGUE

Man City beat Tottenham Hotspur to secure EPL title and trophy for 2018

Manchester City secured the 2017 - 2018 Premier League title after bouncing back to a victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. City were confirmed as champions on Sunday when second-place cross-town arch-rivals Manchester United lost to rock bottom West Bromwich. Saturday's win over the Spurs took City to 87 points and they were handed the title a day later. Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side suffered a shocking loss at Old Trafford to bottom of the England Premier League club West Bromwich Albion. The EPL trophy is the second trophy at Manchester City for manager Pep Guardiola’s side to go with the English League Cup, already secured in February. Guardiola did not watch the Man United v West Brom match after saying he would not watch any soccer and planned instead to enjoy a round of golf with his son. After three losses in a stressful week, including two to Liverpool and to Manchester United in the Manchester Derby - Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United, Guardiola's side was in form as City bounced back with an impressive win over Spurs at Wembley Stadium in London, putting themselves on the edge of title glory. Manchester City host Swansea next.

Manchester City could have already sealed their Premier League title with a victory against Manchester United on Derby Day. City were ahead 2-0 after 30 minutes, but missed many opportunities to increase their advantage - and was punished as Man United staged a stunning second-half comeback to win the exciting derby clash 3-2 at the Etihad. However, Manchester City won the Premier League title as Manchester United's shock 1-0 home defeat by West Bromwich confirmed their local rivals as EPL champions. Second-place Manchester United are now 16 points behind Spaniard Pep Guardiola's first-place side with only 5 games left to play.

“It was a tough week with the results, but we always have to be ready for the next game. We have time to recover after this, but we’re playing a fantastic team here,” said Pep Guardiola ahead of the start of the game. “We believe that we deserve to win the title, across 38 games. We lost one game in the league, but before that we won six in a row. The teams we play later are trying to stay up, but it all depends on us. We’ll try to get one of the wins we need tonight.”

The comeback victory was a morale-boosting win for City after their loss on Tuesday to Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals that knocked them out of the European title battle. Despite completely dominating the first half, there were some tense moments as Tottenham fought their way back into the match until Raheem Sterling scored City's decisive third goal. Gabriel Jesus opened the match scoring for City in the 22nd minute, from Vincent Kompany's long ball and sliding a low shot past French Spurs goalie Hugo Lloris. Three minutes later, France goalkeeper Lloris conceded a penalty, with a studs-up sliding challenge on Sterling, outside of the box according to replays. Ilkay Gundogan converted from the spot to make it 0-2 City. Christian Eriksen scored to halve the deficit from Harry Kane's through ball, his shot ricocheted off Aymeric Laporte and then back off the Dane and in past Ederson. After the break City withstood an onslaught from Spurs before Sterling sent in the forceful rebound from Jesus' shot to earn all 3 points in the 72nd minute in Spurs' first league defeat since losing 4-1 to City on December 16, ending an unbeaten run of 14 matches. Spurs’ boss Mauricio Pochettino's side stay 4th on the Premier League Table, 7 points clear of Chelsea who are in 5th.

The league title is City's 3rd crown in 7 seasons and a 5th top-flight title - their first under Pep in his second campaign as City boss. In their current Premier League campaign City have dominated the title race, scoring 93 goals and losing only two times. The 2018 Premier League title is the 24th earned by the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager’s managerial career. Fourty-year-old Guardiola has previously won league titles in Spain and Germany, as well as two Champions Leagues with Barca. Since Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan took ownership of Manchester City in 2008, City have won seven trophies, adding an FA Cup, two League Cups and an FA Community Shield to their league titles.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola knew his men would win the title.

"I said to my staff after 10-15 minutes 'After today we will be champions.' After the last week to come here and play like we did, we will be champions," said Guardiola. "In the past with defeats by Manchester United and Liverpool, maybe it was not easy for the players but we were good and we created chances in the second half to score more goals and we're so happy. We will try hard to be champions in front of our fans at the Etihad Stadium."

Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino said City deserved the victory.

"In the end, if we analyze the game, they fully deserve the victory," said Pochettino. "We struggled to start in the game. When we conceded the penalty, we started to play. For sure they are going to win the league, but I'm disappointed because we didn't compete in the first 25 minutes. In football, you always want to compete and win. We feel that we are close but it is not enough. We still need to improve to reach the last level which is the most difficult thing."

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester City - Premier League

Following Manchester City securing the Premier League silverware, there was nothing but praise for Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and his men.

Man City chief executive officer Ferran Soriano was honored and delighted by the results.

"Winning the Premier League again is a great honor for Manchester City. We are delighted to have done so providing our supporters with some very exciting and unforgettable moments. We are committed to playing beautiful football and we are proud to have done it so brilliantly this season. For all Manchester City supporters, at home and globally, it is time to celebrate, acknowledge our friendship and enjoy our passion together."

Leon Osman, ex-Everton midfielder praised Man City on BBC Radio 5.

"They definitely deserved the title,” said Osman. “They've been fantastic this season, right from the start. Their performances out of the blocks in the first 10 games were incredible and they really set the tone for the season. Winning at Chelsea - a massive result away at the champions - early in the season really did put a marker down for everyone else to say we're the team to beat. They looked at one point like they were going to go unbeaten. I do think they've set a new standard for Premier League performances and what you expect from title winners moving forward."

Shaun Goater, ex-Man City striker talked about City’s excellence.

"For me, it's by far the best City team I've seen,” said Goater. “The way and the style they've gone about it is truly total football. City have done it in amazing style. That's what's been so beautiful - the way City have won this league."

Chris Sutton, ex-Chelsea striker, on BBC Radio 5 live.

"Manchester City have deserved it,” said Chris Sutton. “Their brand of football this season has been scintillating. They've scored more goals and they have a brilliant manager. Their football on the eye has been superb and they've been streets ahead of everyone else. "Old Trafford was a Theatre of Nightmares this afternoon. You'd think they'd back the derby win up with a strong performance. But they've handed the title to City on a platter."

Former England and Arsenal striker Ian Wright had high praise for City.

"They have been magnificent,” said Ian Wright. “Guardiola has brought the right players. They have been scintillating all season and very much worthy champions. "The goalkeeper was a major acquisition. Kyle Walker has been magnificent too and I'm delighted for him, but the players that were already there have improved too. That's what Guardiola needs to get praise for. "City are already thinking about making sure they can retain it next season and do better in the Champions League."

Martin Keown, former England and Arsenal defender spoke highly of Pep Guardiola and his side.

"Last year Antonio Conte was the pragmatic manager but this year Guardiola had the flare,” said Keown. “They have been in the shadow of Manchester United for so many years but they are well and truly out of that shadow now. Look at how much better City's players are now than at the start of the season. They just keep getting better and better. Guardiola is a serial winner of trophies so you go up another level. He made the necessary changes - he had the money to spend of course - but he spent it wisely and he set the tone. The players clearly know what they are doing and it's a canvas for success."

Pep Guardiola's team wowed almost every football fan this season by being an "irresistible force", one of "the best the Premier League has ever seen", and "artists who paint beautiful football for us each and every week".

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte said he admired how Man City "found the right way to be strong for a long time".

Man City captain Vincent Kompany compared winning the Premier League silverware for the second time.

"It's the same feeling as the first time and you can't describe it,” said Kompany. “It's amazing, such a difficult achievement and I'm proud of the team and everyone involved. This one differs in that we were consistent the whole season and we were able to play at the level we're expected to perform at. I'm buzzing, over the moon, so happy. I'm proud to be able to share this with all our fans, everybody who's been there to support us."

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester City - Premier League

Kevin De Bruyne showed why he is one of the front-runners for the PFA Player of the Year. One of the highlights of the game was a pass to Sterling in the second-half, that the Belgium volleyed off the outside of his boot. Popular and talented Man City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne praised his own team.

"The way we play is probably one of the best in the world,” said De Bruyne. “We were good against United and Liverpool at home, and I think we deserved to win that game. We defended better here, and we got the result. Everyone feels a little bit tired, and Spurs didn’t have a game for a week, but the mental toughness of this team is unbelievable.

Man City still has the opportunity to break through the 100-point barrier for the first time in Premier League history. City has lost only 2 times in the Premier League all season and managed 18 consecutive league wins earlier in the campaign.
