“It’s a massive honor. To be voted by your peers is one of the biggest things in the game. It’s great to win it and I am delighted, said Bale. “When you look at the list, there are some massive names on it but I couldn’t have done it without the team. They have been fantastic this year and so has the manager.

Nominees included Bale, Michael Carrick, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Robin van Persie and Luis Suarez.

“The other nominees have been unbelievable, they have been outstanding for their clubs and it’s a massive moment to win, especially as it’s both awards and it’s something that I’m extremely proud of.”

Premiership : Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Manchester City

Samir Nasri opened the scoring for Man City at 5 minutes with a volley into the corner.

Gareth Bale fed a low cross to Clint Dempsey who tapped in from close range to open the scoring for the Spurs at 75 minutes making it 1-1.

Spurs went ahead at 79 minutes with a wonderful right foot goal from sub Jermain Defoe.

Midfielder Gareth Bale scored the fantastic third goal, from a great pass from Tom Huddlestone.

"Before the game we knew it would be difficult against a great team, but we showed great character at the end. Everyone dug in," said Jermain Defoe. "As a forward, you want to score goals. The most important thing is to get the three points, and if you can score a goal as well, as a striker that is fantastic."

Gareth Bale said the Spurs showed their character.

"We spoke at half-time about our tactics. Manchester City do not play with wingers, so it was very compact out there," said Bale. "The gaffer told me to move out wide and it worked out well. Our opening goal gave us and the crowd belief.

"We showed our character. The club is moving forward every year. The players want to play in the Champions League, and we showed that today."

The result guarantees Man United’s Premier League title coronation if the Red Devils win on against Aston Villa on Monday, April 22nd - while keeping Tottenham’s hopes alive of Champions League qualification for next season.
