However veteran Red Devils star Ryan Giggs says United are still confident of reaching the Capital One Cup final.

The FA will probe David Moyes' comments following the first-leg Capital One Cup battle.

Man United manager Moyes made a scathing attack on referee Andre Marriner after United's defeat in the Capital One Cup semi-final.

Moyes was furious over the decision to award Sunderland a penalty after Tom Cleverley's poor tackle on Adam Johnson, with Fabio Borini firing home the resulting spot-kick in the 64th minute.

Moyes was also angered by the free-kick given to Sunderland for Jonny Evans' aerial clash with Steven Fletcher, with Ryan Giggs scoring his own goal.

With Moyes in charge, United are having the worst run of form since May 2001 as they suffered a third successive defeat.

"We had a player booked for the same challenge the other day, for doing the same thing. It's up to the referees, they're making their minds up," remarked Moyes. "It looks as if we're having to play them as well as the opposition at the moment. It's really terrible, it really is, we're actually beginning to laugh at them."

"We just need to keep going, we didn't do an awful lot wrong. We conceded a terrible first goal from the free-kick, but it was never a free-kick, it was our free-kick.

"I thought the referee was going to blow in our direction. I couldn't believe he gave a free-kick for that Jonny Evans challenge on Fletcher in the air, it was just a terrible decision.

"We've got an opposition to play and sometimes we've got other people to play at the moment."

Man United are currently 11 points off the lead in the Premier League and are out of the FA Cup.

Sir Alex Ferguson's successor insists that he is relishing the opportunity to secure a trip to Wembley when the second leg takes place at Old Trafford on January 22.

"This is a two-legged game, and I'm really looking forward to the second leg now.

"Our crowd were unbelievable tonight, the support they gave the team and me was terrific. The players deserved it because they did well enough to get a result.

"We'll do everything that we can to try and get it right. The players put in a strong performance tonight, it just didn't quite come off. It's not far away and it's coming, I can sense it."

Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville Will Coach at Man United

Manchester United tickets are already available for the 2013-14 season.

United have named 40 year old Giggs as player-coach and 36 year old Neville as their new first-team coach at Old Trafford.

"I'm delighted that Ryan has accepted the chance to become player-coach," said new United manager David Moyes.

"It's no secret I've been taking my qualification. I see this as the first step in my future career," replied Giggs. "It's a great privilege to be appointed as player-coach. I hope I will be able to bring my experience to bear, having been both a player and part of the Manchester United family for so long.

"I'm really looking forward to working alongside David and the team."

After his 22nd season with the club, midfielder Giggs signed a new one-year deal in March which will run until June 2014. To date, Giggs has earned 13 league titles, four FA Cups, four League Cups and two Champions League titles.

The former Wales skipper captained Great Britain at last summer's London Olympics.

"His success and ability to adapt his game over a number of years gives him an unrivalled perspective on the modern game," said Moyes. "His career is an example to any aspiring young player and I'm sure that both he and the players will benefit from his new role."

Phil Neville came through the ranks at United, played under Moyes at Goodison Park and left Eerton at the same time as the Scot. Neville earned 59 England caps during his playing career - winning six Premier League titles, three FA Cups and one Champions League crown at Old Trafford.

"When David Moyes called to give me this opportunity, I couldn't resist. I gave my all when I played for Everton but it is no secret that this club is in my heart," said Neville.

The updated coaching crew at United is made up mostly of staff who worked under Moyes at Everton.

London Olympics 2012 - Team Great Britain Update

A turnout of 74,000 is expected in Cardiff for the upcoming do-or-die decisive group match against Uruguay in Wales.

Team GB will secure their place in the last eight as long as they avoid defeat against Uruguay, who lost 2-0 to Senegal in the first match of Sunday’s double-header at Wembley.

Giggs is one of five Welsh players in the starting line up and became the oldest player to score in Olympic soccer on Sunday.

”It will mean a lot to all of the Welsh lads to play in our own stadium, our own back yard, so it will be a great occasion,“ said Giggsy.

Britain’s Welsh captain Ryan Giggs, long-time Manchester United footballer, hopes fans do not boo the British national anthem when Team GB play their  on Wednesday due to Football Association of Wales’ opposition to the idea of a British team, which it shares with the Scots and Northern Irish who fear the concept may erode their independence within FIFA, world soccer’s governing body.

Many Welsh, Irish and Scottish fans feel the same way. The four parts of the United Kingdom, including England, compete as individual teams in non-Olympic international soccer.

Any snub of the song before the match in Wales would embarrass Britain’s Olympic organizers who put Queen Elizabeth at the heart of Friday’s opening ceremony with a virtuoso role as a “Bond girl” alongside James Bond actor Daniel Craig.

Some Welsh players, including Giggs, did not sing “God Save The Queen” before Sunday’s game or against Senegal in their opening match on Thursday.

Cardiff-born Giggs, who scored the opening goal in Britain’s 3-1 win over the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.

“It’s a personal thing. The British anthem is the same for a Welshman, Scotsman or an Englishman,” he said.

“It’s difficult but it’s not an issue for us. It might be for other people but, once the game starts, we’re all pulling in the same direction and I think that’s the main thing.

”I hope it won’t get booed and I hope the fans will get behind us as they have in our first two games.“

Giggs said.

The Welshman broke an 88-year-old record by scoring at the age of 38 years and 243 days on Sunday. He also became the oldest man to play in the tournament.

After his goal, the United Arab Emirates equalised before substitute Scott Sinclair scored with his first touch and fellow sub Daniel Sturridge made it 3-1 to Britain with a superb chip.

Giggs continued: ”It was a very important win, especially after the Senegal result and the pressure was on.

“I’m still disappointed not to play in a World Cup, a Euros or a major tournament and now this is something I’m relishing.’

Manager Stuart Pearce added: ”I’ve been absolutely delighted with the support we’ve had, certainly in numbers, at Manchester and at Wembley. I think that will continue again in Cardiff.

“I was told this is somewhere in the region of the biggest attendance of an Olympic football match there’s ever been. That sends a message out straight away.

”We have to put a performance on that makes the crowds want to come time and time again if we can.“
