Mourinho watched his side secure a comfortable 2-0 victory over Hull City in Matchday 1 the 2013-14 Premier League season.

Oscar and Frank Lampard put Chelsea in the driving seat against Hull with two first-half goals.

"We want to win matches, but what I like is that when you have the chance to destroy, to beat them by three, four or five, we have to do it," Mourinho said. "If someone has the chance to do it to you, they will not forgive you, they will give you nothing. If we raise the intensity, we destroy an opponent, we get a much bigger result because going that way you have to score goals. If you keep going in the same direction you will score, score one more and probably score one more and kill the game.

"I think our three players behind Fernando Torres disappeared in the second half. They went down but because the score was 2-0. I didn't want to make the change immediately but you could tell when I put [André] Schürrle and Lukaku it gave the team a little push and made a difference. But I know it's difficult. I don't think we did that intentionally because at half time we spoke about starting the second-half in the same direction and killing the game, but we couldn't."

Chelsea still hope to add Wayne Rooney to their ranks before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, although Mourinho insists he has a "plan B and plan C" should he fail in his pursuit of the Manchester United striker Rooney.

Twenty-two year old de Bruyne faces stiff competition for places in midfield.

"It's always nice when the manager has confidence in you; I never have any stress before a match," he told Chelsea's official website. "Football, for me, is still a game, there's a lot of pressure but that doesn't matter.

"You just have to try your best; sometimes you play good and sometimes you are a bit nervous, but that's football," he continued. "We know we have six good players for that position so we have to prove ourselves on the field," he said.

"The manager will probably rotate so we will see what happens. I've started well and team rotation is normal when you play so many games.

"If you play for a club like Chelsea you have more players at a high level, you have to fight for your spot which is good for the team."

'I hope he can get better,' said Moyes. 'With his experience he can.

'His goals on Saturday were top goals, scored by a top goal scorer, and in ways you can see the difference it makes.

'In terms of the performance of the team, we can play better. I thought his finishes made the difference.'

'I said to the players the other day: ''How many medals have you won?''.

'Giggsy had won 13, quite a few of them had won 5 or 6 and Robin said he’d only won one.

'So for me the challenge is for Robin to keep trying to win medals and I think he’s got it, I think he’s driven to do it, he wants to succeed.

'I’ve been really impressed by him in his training and commitment and in trying to improve himself.'

Moyes was asked if Van Persie was the best striker he had worked with.

'Look I worked with Wayne Rooney when he was a 16-year-old boy so I’ve got to say at the moment the way I’ve seen him, world class is sometimes used quite loosely but I think it’d be hard not to put him in that category that’s for sure.

'Is he better than I thought? Maybe, yeah.

'Some of his hold up play as well. We’re talking about his goals but the balls at Swansea when he got it into him were great. His hold up play was great and he brought people into the game for us as well.

'So he’s got an all round game and we want to keep supplying him and give him every opportunity to score.'

Danny Welbeck also scored twice at Swansea.

'I didn’t tell him to be selfish, it was more just that I hoped that he would get in more goal scoring positions.

'We’d keep saying to him to get in there. Actually he missed a few on the tour, he had a few chances to score in some of the games.

'But certainly the goal for England the other night will have helped him and I think Saturday’s goals will too.

'The first one I liked because it was a tap-in and the second one was, as I said him, the sort of finish of someone with confidence who’d scored 20 goals in the Premier League.

'I think sometimes you need a run and a bit of confidence and getting the goals. Sometimes you need to get into the right areas and maybe in the past he’s not wanted to get right in to get his goals.

'That’s why I think the first one was pleasing.'

Premier League champions, Manchester United, won their first league match in grand style away against the Swans 4-1 under new manager, David Moyes who formerly was boss at Everton.

Everton received a joint £28m bid from Man United for midfielder Marouane Fellaini and left-back Leighton Baines - two key players that Moyes wants to bring to Manchester.

"Everton can confirm that it has received bids from Manchester United for two players," was a statement from Everton management. "Those bids were immediately rejected out of hand as derisory and insulting.

"The club did not make public these details as it was vital Roberto Martinez's preparations for the opening game of the Premier League season were not disrupted in any way."

Baines and Fellaini were both in the Everton starting squad on Premier League Matchday 1 under new boss Roberto Martinez resulting in a 2-2 draw at Norwich.

Fellaini was signed by Moyes for Everton in 2008 for £15m, (£17.5m with add-ons) and United are in reality only offering around £16m for the player, and have previously had a £12m bid for Baines rejected.

According to reports, Fellaini's contract included a £23.5m release clause, but that expired at the end of July. Roberto Martinez is confident Marouane Fellaini will remain at Everton after revealing the Belgium international's buy-out clause expired on July 31.

"Marouane had a buy-out clause where it was very straightforward. If someone met that valuation, the club had no say," said Martinez.

"That finished on July 31 so you can imagine during that period everyone was a bit expectant about what would happen. Once that date went, you just focus on working for the next season.

"I'm not concerned at all at the moment.

"The window is open and until it closes you're going to get speculation, you're going to get a lot of talk, not just at Everton. It's the norm."

"They put something over and the valuation wasn't anywhere near the quality of Leighton Baines.
